Hello.

I'm writing this post to complain.
I'm interested in purchasing GameMaker: Studio of course, and the only payment method available is Google Checkout.
Why?

I want to pay with the money I have stocked up on my PayPal account, as they're there for occasions like these.

That concludes my post, and request.

If above was too long to read, here's a summary:
Please, oh please, add a PayPal option.

I don't think YYGs is going to impliment PayPal any time soon.

I can recall reading from some YYGs authoratative source, though I can't remember where, that they encountered some problems with PayPal and that's why they moved to Wallet.

Obviously choice between many processors is ideal, and I'm guessing that YYGs had a pretty significant problem for them to move away from PayPal.

eBay and other major online shops use PayPal just fine, I can't imagine what sort of issue they could possibly have with it.
Maybe I can transfer from my PayPal to my Checkout account then.

Nope, doesn't seem like it.
Now to go through the hassle of transferring to my bank account so I can get it to Google Checkout.

YoYo Games have done a lot of great things recently, but this sure isn't one of them.

Give them their due, they focused on the product itself. Which in my opinion is a good thing. Still I do agree that JUST Google Checkout won't suffice to their target audience.

Well, I hoped PayPal would be enabled before the end of GM:HTML5, in order to use PayPal and get the discount on HTML5 exports. I was wrong.
YYG, please add a PayPal Option in a not distant future. If it's not going to be added, I would like to hear why.

One reason why PayPal is terrible is because they are not a real bank, and do not have to follow bank laws, when it comes to "ownership" of the amount of "money" stored within the PayPal system.

F. ex.: Many eBayers have had their accounts (ebay + PayPal) closed due to wrongful/inaccurate (and also accurate and truthful) accusations charged against them. If this happens too many times, or whenever PayPal deems the report worthy, PayPal can close a person's PayPal account, and the PayPal account holder (more often than not) loses any money stored within the PayPal system, or gets it returned after a lengthy process.

PayPal is horrible in this regard. Anyone can report you as being a meanie, for no good reason, and PayPal can close your account and "hoard" it. This is only good when a person is obviously cheating the system or abusing eBay (f.ex.) in some way. But PayPal is never in a hurry to "investigate" any allegations, and err on the side of safety (for themselves).

I've personally never had any issues with PayPal, and I have no idea if this was why YYG moved away from using PayPal. But the PayPal-horror stories are many, just go visit sites/forums dedicated to this particular problem with PayPal.

This can also happen using Google's services.
Take True Valhalla for example. A Game Maker Community moderator whose Google AdSense account was closed and his ~$160 in earnings frozen.
I believe he has yet to find out why this happened, and may not be able to.

I estimate 6 out of 10 online shops take PayPal (not a fact, possibly incorrect) and a site that sells what YoYo Games' sell should most certainly take PayPal.
If other companies can offer PayPal service, surely YoYo Games can too.

Are you able to receive the paypal debit card? I get around many many websites this way by using the debit card as a master card. That's also how I bought studio. Anyway just mentioning it. I am sure there are many valid reasons why you dont have/want it.

Why do some of you act like YYGs doesn't support PayPal because they simply don't feel like it any more.

YYGs used to support PayPal, now they don't. For them to not use PayPal something significant must have happend.

Here are some Tweets from Sandy:

Sandy Duncan‏@lordoftheyoyo

We've had a terrible time with @paypal recently. This website should be enough to scare any company away from them http://paypalsucks.com/

Sandy Duncan@lordoftheyoyo

@charlesarthur the money was for sales of GameMaker from our website. Common practice at paypal. See http://t.co/lQIg4Yy9.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that second post suggests that GameMaker sales were not being transferred to YYGs.

If YYGs isn't receiving their sales, than obviously they aren't going to continue using them. People having problems with PayPal and loosing thousands of dollars is not a rare occurance.

As much as we'd like to, we will not be adding Paypal, sorry.

Paypal are a law unto themselves, and there is nothing we can do about it.

I'd really wish for a non-credit card method of paying though (as credit cards are out of the picture for me atm). Can't iDeal or something be supported (possibly through a Collecting Payment Service Provider)? iDeal provides direct bank-to-bank transfer and here in the netherlands I don't know of a single self-respecting internet company that doesn't allow iDeal (heck even my taxes I pay by iDeal).

Well apparently they are implementing a new payment method soon anyway. I'm not sure if it is any better than Wallet though..

In Canada, you can walk to the closest convenience store and buy a pre-paid Visa/MasterCard with your bank card, and then use it online. I'm fairly certain you can do the same in the US, and I'm sure other countries have pre-paid credit cards available too.

I have no complaints with their choice to exclusively use Google Wallet, but I think they are putting up a barrier for part of the market. I think Paypal is more widely used and accepted and there are a lot of people who have it as their only option. I remember a point in my life where I was only able to buy stuff on websites that accepted Paypal.

According to VISA's policy on pre-paid cards, 'they may or may not work with foreign companies'.

So I did not dare to use them.

I am sure there are many valid reasons why you dont have/want it.

And in fact I do. I'm not eligible for a PayPal debit card, as I live outside the United States.

I think Paypal is more widely used and accepted and there are a lot of people who have it as their only option.

YYG didn't receive their payments, so obviously they're not going to use PayPal.
It's an awful shame, but that's how it is.

And now I have a lot of money I wanted to spend on GM:Studio on PayPal, but I can't.
Time to go through the hassle.

Can't you guys be more professional and provide a clear and concise explanation as to how to buy this product? This is so damn unprofessionally written. You ought to fire whoever is responsible for marketing this product.

First of all, this is not a guide on how to buy GM: Studio.

1) Go to the yoyogames website (www.yoyogames.com) -> GameMaker -> Studio -> Click the big banner that says "Click here to buy ..."
2) Go to yoyogames.com, on the frontpage click the enormous banner that says "GameMaker: Studio out now!"
3) Go to yoyoames.com, right below the enormous banner, click the item that says "GameMaker:Studio - Starting from $99".

Was that so hard?
