Hello everyone,

I hope this sort of topic is welcome here.

I would like to build an open source tool that is compatible with and complements GameMaker. Specifically, it would be able to target multiple platforms.
Is there anyone here that would like to discuss such a project, and possibly help me work on it? I'd love to work with some people that can complement my skill and research. I have a lot to bring to the table, and I'm almost ready to implement it.

What do you guys think?

Mods, again, I hope this topic is welcome. Please humor keeping it open, because I think it will be very interesting. If you have a disagreement, please post it, but I hope we can have a good discussion.

Thanks! :)

I think it's a great idea, but I also believe it's been done before - it sounds a lot like Lateral GM. They're always looking for helping hands

Thanks :)

I've heard of it. I decided I wanted to do something a little more flexible than using Java, so I started my own project a few years ago (see my signature).

I learned a lot when starting on the project, and now I have a lot of fresh new ideas for building something great. I'm looking forward to working with some of you :)

My ideas for the project are as follows:

1) Build upon the Game Creator project
2) Build a GML analyzer for building efficient compiled code
3) Use an abstract syntax tree to represent the game, to be compiled on any platform
4) Build an interface for using a desired middle layer, i.e. LLVM or Microsoft CCI
5) Other back ends can then be used (OpenTK, GTKSharp, Emscripten+WebGL for HTML5, XNA, etc., etc.)

The main things I'm trying to figure out involve the middle layer framework. I want to build one that will work with a variety of compilers/frameworks. I'm planning to use LLVM and CCI, but what about Android, for example?
