Back in 2004, when I was a kid, I started a game called Space Raids Zero.
It was pretty shoddy, shoddy system, shoddy graphics, shoddy music and shoddy gameplay.

Now I'm into retro 8-bit and 16-bit stuff, I thought I'd dig this up and try and rejuvenate it. The primary new addition is a menu system.

Name: Space Raids Zero
Download (with music - 10.4mb): Link
Download (without music - 2.55mb): Link
Resolution: 800x600, press F4 for Windowed mode

Some parts of the game are incomplete, some parts of the system in the later levels don't work properly due to unfinished re-coding, and some of my childish MS-Paint graphics remain.
I recommend that you download with the music - there are numerous versions of the theme tune to sample, in 8-bit, 8-bit plus band, or MIDI.

Controls:
Ctrl - Shoot
Shift - Jump
Arrow Keys - Move and Aim
Mouse - Navigate Menus
Space - Drop DeathTrap Bombs (later on in the game if the system hasn't messed up before you reach it)

Anyway, if you have any recommendations, I'd like to hear them,
Thanks

This actually is a very simple and nice game. I thought the music matched the game play and all. A few suggestions I had were to make the enemies a bit harder, make the controls easier to use or allow players to change the controls. Sometimes collisions were a bit glitchy. Other than that, this is a good game so far.

I'm quite happy with how it's running so far, yes, thank you. I'm going to add some intelligence to the enemies to make them less 'Mario-like', but I don't want to make it too Metroid-y either :) Thanks for the feedback. I've found controls like this acceptable in the past but it might be an idea to alter them I suppose.
