My name is Sir, and I was going to make a pokemon fan game but ran into trouble when I couldn't make a map that fit dimensions. All pokemon maps have to be 16x16 based, or they don't work. This is because, if you have played one of the games, they work off a grid. Well, I set out to design and build an engine that could make maps for me, with perfect dimensions. This was *almost* achieved.

> Name : Pokemon Map Maker v.1
> Download : Here!
> Size : 3.96 MB.
> Source : No, not happening, no way no how, don't ask.
> Anything else : Not really.
> Description : Down below.
> Post the maps you make!

I am currently enhancing this, making v.2. As of right now, there is no way to export what you have created into a picture file, this is coming with v.2. Also, there is no way to see what tile you currently have picked. This is ALSO planned in v.2. But, this release is big because it marks (what I think) is the first use of GM as a tool to help other designers make more games!

The current way to use this tool, step by step.
Spoiler

The tiles are stackable! Meaning, grass or dirt or rock (or ice or snow) can be placed under a mailbox. Tile 1 is grass, 2 - 25 are a pokecenter, 26 - 60 are random (trees and stuff), 60-64 are more tiles, 65 - 72 are a fence. If you go above 72, you WILL get an error. I know about this. Thank you.

Cheers! Happy map making! v.2 should be released soon, like, this week.
Sir.

Sir.

Man this is just a really poor Pokemon Map Maker, all that it does is (from what i can see on the .exe):

Have a variable that indicates what image_index you selected and when you left click it creates the object and sets the image index that the variable said when it was created >.> and you cant export the map so what on earth can you do with this just draw a map that you can't use or save?

Edit: also this is the wrong section, this should go on Windows Creations sub-forum, sorry if it sounds rude, but its the true :S

I stated this. >_> Up there ^

I made this in nearly 4 hours. Ok? I'm sorry if it isn't pixel perfect. Im working on exporting right now. And the images are coming. For now, this works for me, so I figured I would release it. Screen shot/paste in paint isnt that hard.

This is the Resources subforum, and this is a resource, right? Should it not go here...? O_O This forum changed sometime this week. I'm all confused.

that would be incredibly useless to use. saving all of your rooms as images would be massively slow in loading and would consume so much more memory than necessary. Since all this program does is place tiles on a grid, i don't see the use for it. This can already be achieved in Game Maker's Room Editor (you ought to try it out, it's really useful for making rooms)
what i was thinking this was going to be, was a room generation system, that would be leet. however it's not so it's kinda pointless.

this release is big because it marks (what I think) is the first use of GM as a tool to help other designers make more games!

Wrong, and wrong.

These guys are being a little harsh, though I can kinda see where they are coming from. However, I think this tool could really go somewhere and I am quite interested in it. I'll try out this version but it seems v2 will be a bit easier to use so I look forward to it. Personally, a map making program can com in handy, rather than having to make one using the game maker room editor. Just be sure to make it easier to use than the room editor cause it would be a little useless then. Also, I think adding the random map generator idea would be completely boss and would get more people into this. I myself would like to make a suggestion however... would it be possible, later on when you've finished what you set out to do with this, for you to add a setting to switch between making different grid map sizes like 32x32 and such rather than just 16x16, and the ability to import your own map files, if that is not already part of the program? Keep up the good work!
