...
Any idea YYG what area of the Q2 you're expecting to have Studio released? Early, middle or end of Q2? Would be appreciate if you can say.
...

Errr ... everything seems to indicate it's veeery soon. We might be talking weeks/days or even just this coming Monday. But that's just an unsubstantiated rumour, so it might be any time this summer (or Monday ;-) )

The $200 does not cover the developers fees for the respective platform. You will still need to pay these as well.

The biggest benefits for using GMS vs the native SDK's for the individual platforms is rapid development and cross platform execution from a single code base. If you wanted to make a game for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and HTML5 without GMS you would have to recreate the game 5 times. On GMS you can use the same code base and deploy to all 5 platforms.

Not to mention, you better know HOW to code for all 5 platforms. Otherwise you are going to spend a LOT of time learning or have to pay someone to port your game to the platforms you cannot program for. Either of these options are going to cost your more than the price of the export modules. (Yes, even learning for free on the internet, because the time you spend learning is down time, and time truly is money unless you have all the time in the world to waste).

If you already know how to use GameMaker, then you already have the knowledge to deploy to all 5 platforms. If you don't already know GameMaker then you only need to learn one tool and language to get your game on all 5 platforms. Not to mention, The Android and iOS modules are the cheapest methods I have seen so far for getting your game on those platforms aside from using the SDK.

Honestly, if your buying GameMaker Studio then you should be buying it as a serious tool to develop games with, and if you are, then $200 is change because you will make that back many times over if you know what your doing.

the cost of becoming a developer for the platform?

"The $200 does not cover the developers fees for the respective platform. You will still need to pay these as well."

Every-time I buy something, I learn something new. So it seems I'll need a developer license as well?

Ok.

$99 for HTML5, I bought that yesterday... that gives me the Stuido for free.
and... $200 for the .APK creator.
I wonder what other fees I'm looking forward to? (to be able to sell on the market)

... I'm just wondering, not complaining.

For Android I think it's $15... and unlike Apple that's a one off, lifetime fee... however I may be mistaken. As for the licenses and stuff in general, if you wish to develop anything for any platform, you should investigate things first and not just assume that the software you buy is all you need, as in this world it is rarely that easy!

Thanks Nocturne.

Yeah, I knew there was some kind of fee (play market) I was just wondering what other costs down the road, thats all.

in this world it is rarely that easy!

+1 Yeah, I hear you, brother.

Well, I'm still looking forward to creating some apks down this long road.
I have plenty of good game ideas.

It's interesting that it'll cost $200 for something that's theoretically free (in reference to iOS and Android).

Care to share what GM:S has to offer over XCODE + SDK, and Eclipse + SDK?
I'm assuming rapid development is the best benefit?

Plus, if you pay the $200 for the exporter, does that include the cost of becoming a developer for the platform? Or is that extra?

 That's all GM has ever been. There have always been other ways to make games for the PC. GM:S costs more now because instead of only providing easy development for basic game functionality on only Windows, it now provides more functionality more efficiently, more easily, on more platforms.

The license fee is a one time $25. You need a google checkout
account and fund it with a credit card. If you want to sell your apps you will need a merchant account.

I think this is a buisness trick to get people to buy HTML5 right now. Nothing wrong with it I guess.... just a little jerky in my opinion.

Wait... Reminding people to buy a 99$ product which will save them 200$ as they get a free upgrade to a superior product when it is released is jerky? You live in a strange world my friend...

Erm... please don't say it's too late to do this. I didn't know this was an option until today. I didn't buy GM:HTML5 when it came out because I wanted to wait for GM:Studio.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me get the free upgrade.

With all respect that you deserve... But when GM staff asked for help with the GM:HTML5 release, you didn't help buying it. Asking for a free upgrade right now is a little... opportunistic, don't ya think? ._.
