I have a Raspberry Pi, I got it in the first batch that came out (about a month or two ago) and I like it. I like the fact that it has dual desktops, its own StartX windows, Scratch, Python etc. Its a nice piece of kit that took me back to plugging my zx81 in back in 1982.

Apparently NPT isn't the only geezer on the GMC.

Where did you buy your Pi? Are you in England?

I have been working on computer since 1979, that was a mainframe and I was mainly playing games on it at the time :)

I bought my Raspberry Pi from Farnell ( I was up at 5.50am on the morning of its launch) I am in England.

I owned (and still own) my Timex Sinclair ZX81.

I remember one of the problems I had with it was the 16K memory upgrade module on the back had a habbit of glitching if moved, causing the machine to freeze.

The solution, atleast for Canadians who had an abundance of thick large rubber bands used to hold hockey shinguards in place, fit perfectly around the unit and held the memory module in place rock solid.

And if you keep up with this geezer crap, I won't share some of my Model-T stories and how we used to play tricks on the ice delivery man.

I still have my ZX 81 here in the office, and most of the other technology I have had over the years, I also have thousands of computer magazines from the 80's and 90's (before they became boring and samey).

Being a computer software house from 85 onwards I have a ton of old stuff that I have never thrown away and should probably be in a museum :)

We can't seem to get them yet in the US. Farnell's US partner is Newark and RS Components US partner is Allied Electronics -- and I'm on their lists (along with thousands of other people I expect). Plus, I see now that Newark isn't taking orders at all. Not a good sign.

Ice delivery? In Canada? You guys will buy anything.

The Raspberry Pi is just as difficult to come by in England. They stopped taking orders after the first 10,000 orders (on the first morning). Then they changed the system so that people could express an interest in being allowed to put an order in. Then they closed that and went to a 'sorry not taking orders yet' type system.

Its a great device that should be freely available in a few months time.

Looks like the second batch is available now (or about to be) -- but only to customers who "pre-registered" their interest in purchasing. I received simultaneous emails from RS Components (UK) and Allied (USA) yesterday, inviting me to order. (one per customer)

So today I placed my order with Allied. Raspberry Pi (model B), power supply. Also ordered a "Pi pan"... basically a small rubber enclosure to protect it ($5). I already have another USB keyboard/mice combo, HDMI cables, and SD cards / USB sticks for external storage.

No delivery date was given yet, but at least I have an order in place now.

I hope that the GM for Linux is for all of the main Linux Distros(Like Angstorm, Ubunutu, Fedora, Desbian, etc, etc).
