Any GM user has purchased Ben Tyers's Game Maker Book 2? Any review or comment on the book? Thanks.!
:rolleyes:
I have one more question. How will a customer get the Game Maker Book 3 if the customer buys now? Thanks again.

just bought it yesterday, so far what i quick looked them, worth the money many times they are going for, the 3rd book they give you a download link and also you can contact them (they could contact you also, when its released) $4.99 what i paid for, was worth the money definitely! Unlike this book i purchased for $19.99 :P http://gmdeveloper.c...ney-with-html5/ was NOT worth the money it was going for, only few pages of almost random information (in that advert it promised you get to know more "Sources" where to sell, but in reality it just direct you to google in the book...read the review before you buy it, i guess the old saying goes (or ask someone who bought it if its worth the money asked for)

Hello,

Thank you.  I am also interested in Book 3 because Book 3 will talk about pin ball game and tower defense.  I think that I will buy them.

oh...this book costs USD19.9 but there are only 29 pages.? The book is too expensive.

yeah, i bought it as pre-order in January and funny thing is, i never got the actual book after it was released, forgot it already but saw the developers banner by accident in these forums advertising that book :P so contact him and finally got the book but i was pretty disappointed with the information inside, nothing really that much useful and the price tag is quite a lot if compared to other books. *edit, quote for some weird reason didnt work on the first post and didnt want to mix up the txts so here it is again...

True Valhalla's book is very specialist and provides some good advice, I too found it a little lacking but can understand the price point.

The GameMaker's Apprentice and Companion are to my understanding very basic books, they are likely worth a read if you haven't made a game in GameMaker before either with drag and drop or GML.

I'm working on a Beginners Guide to GML at the moment which if all goes to plan will be released some time in Quarter 2 this year. Since its in the process of being written you can suggest things you'd like in it and I can see what I can do. It aims to be more of an overview of GML than a step by step make a game process but still with lots and lots of examples and code snippets.

So far, I've enjoyed your books.  I'm looking forward to #3... but especially #4 if it is going to be about RPG's!  If it includes anything about doing isometric games... I will love you LONG TIME!

ok.....it is very nice that your book is about Game Maker Language. :sweat:

Perhaps some GM users will learn other programming languages in the future. Therefore, these GM users may want to learn different programming concepts in your book....yes! :sweat:

May I ask a question? Is your book based on Gamemaker Studio? Or Gamemaker 8.1? :GM060:

Is it a paperback book?  Or is it an ebook?

I try to describe some similarities between GML and other languages. Just as the use of the semicolon or how switch statements can work quite differently in other languages.

The book is based on GameMaker-Studio, however all example files that will be included will in the GameMaker 8.1 format with the exception of any example that requires behavior or functions only available in GameMaker-Studio.

It will be an ebook, It just isn't feasible for me to self-publish a paperback. There are services that will print to demand which I'm looking into, but It will most definitely be an ebook.

On a side note FortyEightKay's books look quite good for beginners from the previews, I'm got gripes with some of the formatting but the content itself seems very good. I would encourage beginners to make them one of their first stops, at least until I publish my own.

Available in both formats.

Yes, there are a few formatting issues, but I'm revising them every few weeks.

There will be an RPG, but currently undecided which format/approach I'll use.

Here's what "I" would like to learn... how to make a Rogue-like RPG!  It's been my dream!

Things that I would love to see:

* random dungeon generation

* random loots generation

* different enemies (ranged/melee/etc) - mostly ai / pathfinding

* isometric display - I've always thought this looks better for RPGS - ever since Ultima VI

* Inventory system

* Store - buy/sell/upgrade

I think the rest of the stuff is pretty straightfoward... xp's...leveling...etc.

Anyway.... in case you were looking for a direction to go :-)

PS - What's the focus of book 3?

I  notice that the book "HTML5 Game Development with GameMaker" has been released. At first, this book was scheduled to release in May 2013.

This is a 46-page free chapter. This book looks nice...

This is the author's website with five HTML5 games mentioned in the book :
