GameMaker is the software of choice for teaching game based-learning. From technology summer camps, elementary schools, high schools, and universities, GameMaker allows students to create games in a matter of hours with the only limit being one’s imagination! YoYo Games offers academic versions of GameMaker for educational purposes because GameMaker’s simplicity and extensive selection of online resources for easy lesson planning make it an excellent tool for teaching programming, technology and game design.
Techknowkids has been running a successful game design class since 1994. Techknowkids uses GameMaker for students aged 10 to 14-years-old. Organizers created a great video showing kids and parents how game development ignites imagination and creativity here: http://techknowhowki...ame-design.html
YoYo Games will be introducing a new education resource page called GameMaker in Education that will have information, frequently asked questions, links to resources, tutorials and help with courses for both teaching staff and students. We will also have a dedicated section on the GameMaker Community for sharing materials, school science competitions, projects and opinions.
There is so much going on with GameMaker that we want to help promote and showcase organisations that teach, hold competitions and champion after school club projects. If you are a teacher currently using GameMaker, get in touch and tell us about how you use GameMaker at http://yoyogames.com/help/contact.

And hopefully this will lead to some sort of split-up between newbie users that want to learn how to use Game Maker and newbie users who want others to solve their problems for them.

But on a serious note, should I tell my IT teacher (who teaches GM) to contact you?

It's funny because you were joking about an educational GM last year for April fools
But on a serious note, should I tell my IT teacher (who teaches GM) to contact you?
Certainly!

I doubt it. If they're given an assignment or what have you to make something in GM, they're likely to just want the work done for them.Sounds wonderful! The more, the merrier!

Tut tut, no need to be pessimistic (even though you may perhaps be pointing out the obvious
It would be interesting to see some sort of a weeding out, or splitting up of users though, I agree with that. The question is just how to implement something like it.
I am reminded of the game RuneScape, and bear with me, there is a parallel to be found here. When new users are created in that game, they start off on an "instructional island" (or whatever it's called, noob-island or whatever) where they go through a few exercises that get the users ready for the actual game.
How about creating something similar for the GMC (or this proposed new educational section of the forum(would it be an entity of its own or a proper part of the GMC?)) where users start off with some proper "educational" training tutorials, designed to addresse such things as D&D, some basic GML, and such.
Depending on their participation therein, the users would "graduate" to the GMC forum proper.
If these tutorials were properly designed, in my mind's eye, I see this could effectively weed out many, if not most, questions which the GMC forum is faced with on a nearly daily/weekly basis.
But I digress ... I see this more as a potential all-encompassing blanket answer for the GMC forum, not just something that is directly aimed at the purpose of this thread (

In the time-honored tradition of the GMC, let me be the first to say...I remember when the seed was cautiously planted... It's gonna be fun.

This is terrible. Change it back. You ruined the forum. It looks unproffessional [sic]. I'm quitting GameMaker now.
Oh... wait. You haven't changed anything yet.
