So i have been toying around with the idea in my mind for some time to recreat a program i started a long time ago but inprove on it ten times better.

So the progam would of curse be an animating program that you would be able build a charector out of body parts that you ether drew or came. all of the body parts would be jointed together at joints you spesifide. you would also be able to pin any acsesorys to the charector anywhere. you could eather then export the animation as a png strip or your could exprot it a a gml script to import into your game so that you could easily change out all exsesorys.

the animating proses would be similar to Pivot Stickfigure Animator as well as the charector creating prosess.

I know that this is a big project that is why i am seeing how many people would want this program before a devote much time to it.

I thought of doing something very similar until I stumbled upon this: http://www.kickstart...9087245/spriter
It's still in beta, but there's a release on their forums and someone made a GM API for it as well: http://gmc.yoyogames...howtopic=537492

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, as you could certainly add things that might be more GM specific, plus it would be a great learning experience. I just wanted to let you know something similar already exists (well it's being made, but still).

Whether or not anybody would use it depends on how good it is. There's always room in the marketplace for good graphics-creation tools. But bad ones are a curse.

So I'd say build it. Sounds like a fun challenge.

thanks guys for the input.

brighteyes i have seen spriter as well. but i feel like the user interface is not that great and it lacks a lot. and that makes it dificaut to use and learn. there is also one feature that i willinclude in my animator that is not avalible in that one and that is making one image that can bent at moultiple points.

chance
I know that i could make this a great animating tool because years agoi started on a progect that was simalar but droped it when i couldn't modify it to do everything i wanted without starting over. but i have a clear vision of everything i want, and i know how to do it. And as for the user interface i should be able to create a vary frendly user interface.

If you plan on making something like that then I'd say it would be expected to also allow the file to be saved as an animated gif.

well danny i could infact save them as an aminated gif but i feel that a png strip would be a better for most cases but i would probably include the option of an animated gif as well.

If you can manage it, a program like this would do well to have some inverse kinematics. That is, if I have a series of bones and joints (like for a character's arm), and I move the end somehow (i.e. moving his hand), the rest of the bones rotate and move naturally to account for the new position. I haven't been able to program a working IK system yet, but I may just be dense ;) .

love the idea!(as long as it is easy to use!)
hope it has many features that let's artists make their own animation come to life!Posted Image
also I'm not very creative so I'm slow at making my own animations by paint. :P
