I second this, although your best option is to stick with your original style. It's got a much more happy feel to it, which makes it all the more attractive to the player.I'd say go somewhere in the middle. Keep the original style but increase the contrast of every slightly.

Anyway, it looks great! I hope there will be a town with neighbors and townspeople like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon.
One of my first projects was a AC / HM simulation game, although due to artistic restraints I never finished it. I believe in these types of games, graphical qualities are a must.

This. Need I say more?I would keep with your original style, but it is up to you how you make YOUR game.

A few other things that made me change my mind were that it is a lot more cheerful and bright, and it's a lot easier to sprite in that style.
Anyways, I haven't been working on the game lately, as I've been busy with some other stuff outside of development. I still work on planning from time to time, but no actual work on the game.

Not really. Like most of my games, I'll start them, grind work on them for a month or so, and stop. I usually get bored of that idea, as I'll have 50 other ideas floating around in my head, or lose motivation on the project, etc.Is this topic still alive? I'd really like to see the progress of this game.
I've started working on a new game...An "action" platformer to be specific (Kind of Cave Story-esque). I want to try to keep it a "secret" until I have a demo for it, so that's all I can really say for now.
