REWRITEN IDEA.

-----GAMEPLAY-----
a duel game between 2 players or player vs bot

imagine "frets on fire" or guitar hero" like duel game with skills"
there is 3 blocks in game
1 active at a time
to change active block press 1-2-3 or with mouse on block

red - atack block - if player press atack skill (bottom line) he gets some sequence of random symbols* (wasd) if he hits all symbols (in typing block) correctly, then blocks appear on enemy defensive block (green). if he not hit all symbols* he will fail on atack, and symbols* on enemy green block will not appear.

green - defence block - if enemy hits all symbols* on atack block correctly, then some symbols* will appear on player green block. if he not hit them all, he gets dmg.

blue - regeneration block - upon hitting symbols or using skills (not decided yet) players uses his energy(mana/stamina)
symbols on blue screen will apear randomly, and hitting them will give player energy.
if he dont have energy he can't atack or defence and get increased dmg (exhausted state)
also if player use some healing skill - symbols* will appear in this block.

player will need find middle-ground between atacking-defending-and regenerating


*-symbols moving from top to bottom

-----ATTRIBUTES-------
Strenght - increase dmg per symbol
Constitution - increase hp
Dexterity - crit/dodge
Speed - increase speed of symbols in enemy def. block
Cunning(???) - symbols on enemy def side will appear at lower y-axis (less time to react)
Stamina - increase energy pool (???)
Perception - negates enemy cunning skill.. and some more?(any ideas?)

I guess this is meant to be a turn-based strategy game. But I can't really figure out the idea behind it. Can you explain a bit more? How exactly do players attack/defend by typing letters?

I like it, assuming what you mean is what I'm thinking.

All of the moves rely on the player being able to type fast, the player swaps between these to perform actions such as attacking defense and regeneration, as far as I can tell it is realtime not turn based.

I would say use words instead of random strings because words are easier for a player to hold in their head then strings. Perhaps have each box a different typing skill? Like in the defense box an image appears and you have to spell it correctly, In the attack box do the random strings thing and the regen box... I dunno.

I like the idea though! Typing games can be pretty confusing though because some people are really fast typers others not so much, so what can be a fantastically easy game for one player may be super hard for another, this is true in all games but more so for typing, I would suggest difficulty levels.

But a really good idea!

it will be real time, not turn based.

i think its not about typing fast. its more about hitting symbols correctly.

player can try to nuke down enemy by only spamming atack speells, and not defending and not regenerating. but if enemy defends well, he can quick run out of energy and will be exhausted and will can't defend until he gets some energy.
some skills will be added like:
stun - player can't use skills
snare - player can't defence lowered or he can't defend at all.
stealth atack - atack symbols apear at very low y-axis so player have very little time to react.
shields - absorb all damage or clear defensive table, so player can use many atack spells and try to nuke enemy player.
energy drain - takes some energy from enemy player..

p.s. forgot to mention that symbols going from top to bottom

its not like guitar hero. i just give it as example of moving symbols.
i will not use whole keyboard.
few keys for hitting symbols (like WASD or arrow keys) or maybe more. not deicided yet.
tab or mouse wheel for changing active block(atk/def/regen)
1-2-3-4-5 for skills.

what powerups? like in guitar hero?
i not use them. maybe just for achievment - hit 100 correct symbols without missing or mistakes.
i will use skill's instead powerups.

By powerups I mean skills.

I misunderstood what you meant, it's not a typing game just a... Whatever guitar hero is game. :P
