Well, let's just say that I think leecher is an extreme term, used to describe what is a very small group of people. Either way, I don't like the term. If someone has something to say to a member, then please say it, don't 'smear' it over a broad group of people with the term who are needing help. I'm upset that CptCryBaby feels the need to explain, or defend himself as a Q&A asker.

GM users are always very welcome to post their questions. As you gain experience, googling will certainly suffice to solve many of your problems, but sometimes extra advice/explanations for your own topics are well worth posting questions 'again'.

Someone spoke to how all questions have already been answered and implied that a noob could just search the forums and find their answer without posting a duplicate question and bothering anybody.

There is a wealth of information on these forums but finding it is not that easy.

Noobs (this surely includes myself) don't know the jargon or the actual names of the things/processes that they are looking for & there are far too many people giving the subject of their inquiry a vague or pointless title. Those two alone can knock a novice right out of the game.

Very true for many beginners -- and it explains why similar questions get asked over and over again. When you're just starting GM (especially if you aren't already a programmer) it's hard to know what questions to ask. So searching can be difficult.

The world got Game Maker years ago but to me and the rest of the bright-faced noobs, we just unwrapped it yesterday. Try to remember the enthusiasm and frustrations you went through when you started.

Being dismissive or short-tempered with beginners isn't related to a helper's skill level -- it's related to their maturity level. More mature helpers are generally understanding, as long as the beginner makes an effort.

It usually just the people who were recently newbies themselves, who act arrogant. Like the kid who just got his training wheels off, and now rides around the neighborhood making fun of the other kids who still have them.

I think Nal borrowed the term from torrents where you have seeders and leechers, in that context leechers isn't necessarily meant negatively.
