I'm making everything randomly generated to give the illusion of a longer game :3
Like:
A randomly generated world map that randomly generates cities which then sets up a huge array of linked rooms and each room will have randomly generated terrain, randomly generated flora, randomly generated monsters and randomly generated buildings. And you can kill randomly generated monsters for randomly generated loot which you can sell for other randomly generated stuff in the randomly generated shops in the randomly generated cities. BUT WAIT! There's more! You can do some randomly generated quests to level up & gain gold to make a spaceship! In which you can travel to other randomly generated planets to do other randomly generated stuff!

Pretty much just like the game Spore! But less disappointing.
That's right kids! The contest doesn't say it has to be a traditional RPG but just needs RPG elements! I can just make a game like Learn To Fly as it has various RPG elements though it is classified as an arcade game.
Though I'm making an oblique-view rpg platform shooter. Like Cartoon Wars Gunner but with platforming (3D movement), and RPG elements.
Actually the core engine is pretty much done! I just need to add melee weapons and spell casting. World map generates and makes cities! I just need to translate the map into rooms.
I do have significant experience making RPGs! I may just have begun to develop my RPG but that doesn't mean I didn't have it planned out!

xD, rofl

PS: I just said that because if he generates everything there wont be a story line to follow (from what i can see), but the advantage of doing what he does is that it never ends :D

Who has the time to enter in these sort of things...
I really do hope it's a GMC member to win or at least place in top three, nevertheless.
I cheer for you, honourable contestants!

1 month? The DaemonEngine took around a month to go from "can draw the isometric grid correctly" to "something like Disgaea, but without all the fun special attacks" and I've worked full days with it in periods. RPGs take an INSANE amount of time to make. I've just learned so by experience.

Can I still enter ? I have no RPG engine and I'm no graphic expert too :( . If I'll make something it will have choppy graphics , few items and customisation , few monsters and bosses , few npc and just one with quest (main quest) which probably can be done in two ways. It will be enough for winning ? Let's say just 1-3 hours of total play ...

and is any theme to follow?

3rd edit : can i use a rpg face and sprite generator?

The only way you could enter is by somehow finding either an inactive person who entered the competition or form a team with an already started team I believe...

I'm not. I'm bowing out. We've just had too much real life going on. ~snaps fingers sheepishly~

I hope everyone who has had time shows good for it, though! $:^ J

Uni prep and traveling is taking over all my time >.<
Dunno if I'll be able to finish. Most of the one month I've been working on this game has gone into my vacations. >.> Can't do much about that.
Got world, road, river, biome, flora, city/town, building and random loot (armor, weapon and accessories) generation done as well as the basic movement engine. Putting it all together is becoming boring and a real pain. Spent several days just integrating towns into the world map. Probably more just coding in all the prefixes and suffixes of all weapons, armors and accessories.
I got a lot done but there is too much left to do and I would rather go camping instead :/

good luck to everyone

I haven't been participating in this competition.. But before you decide to not finish, I'd love to take what you have and try to finish it myself. I'd hate to see that much progress go to waste, and I literally have full days of freetime doing nothing over the next week, and if by some chance we win we'd split the prize.

Or I could just help by building the map/levels if you don't want to or don't have the time. I enjoy it, and I wouldn't want a share of the prize (just recognition).

If you're interested check out my projects on yoyogames and let me know.

I still have some time so I'll work on what I can. I would give you the pieces to the game but they aren't commented so It would be very difficult for anyone to know exactly what is going on.
But If you're offering to help me with the remaining portion of work, I gladly accept your offer. We can split what we win.
There are several things left but If you can code me some of the things I need (ability, stat, text box, quest, buff/debuff systems) we can make the game in time!
PM me if you want to join.

I hope that is a parody or something cause that name is so similar to another game's name on GOG.
