Why is image_single not in the manual and why should image_speed and image_index be used instead? I'm using image_single in Studio and I have no problems.

image_single has been deprecated in favour of image_speed and image_index since GM6, well over 7 years ago. It is only there for backwards compatibility (for GM5), not for mainstream use. That's what deprecated means, and that's why it's not in the manual.

Ok thanks for the answers.

[...] and please the day you get an error because it's no longer supported, no topics.

No need to tell me that bro.

I'd rather ask: why is image_single even still working?

A couple of games we were using to test Studio used them so.... Also, it was easier to add than continually answer questions as to why some ones sprites didn't animate properly.

Some of these I agree should have been cut. They were... "tacky". The health bar functions come to mind.

but some of these cuts confuse me. If its really true things like "image_single" were undocumented, buggy, yet still essentially floating around in there...

How can us GM 8.1 users know when we are about to walk into a minefield of errors?

This made me lol, next time I make a horror game this should be a good way to make the player jump.

^ I have converted all of my completed games made in 8.1 to studio C++ and it gave me little or no errors after studio went out of beta. Luckily the obsolete functions I've almost never used. I guess I have a good sense of what is redundant. (With the exception of execute_file and dynamic creation of rooms/objects, those I am hoping to come back.. For at least the windows export). But isn't not like I'll ever need them to make a decent game, as those functions I only used out of convenience, and not actually needed at all with the INI functions present.

Well in that case you are right, that is a key importance to those who would need that, but I hardly use maps, fortunately.
