Nice seeing reviews come out, even if they offer less praise than expected. It's easy enough to please my friends in the dorm who know nothing about programming or game design, so it's easy to build up false ideas. But being told what you did wrong is how you learn, and I like learning. Anyhow, here are some comments on reviews of Tripod.

Follomania:

Liked Least: The difficulty of some of the levels made it frustrating.

True. Some of the levels were based more around painful execution and excessively rapid key presses. I should have drawn a line somewhere and said "players shouldn't be expected to be able to perform x move beyond y speed." Against my better judgement, I left some levels in that didn't make the game any more fun or fairly challenging.

Woah, just read this and had to say something. Tripod is one of my favourite games I've played so far and one of the best things I liked about it was how hard some of the levels were. I wanted more, even harder levels! I really liked the rapid sticking to the roof-ing. I should submit some reviews. I was waiting until I'd played them all, written a review, replayed them, and altered my reviews until I posted them.

Wow, that's very ambitious! I'm also waiting until I've written all my reviews, but it is taking so long! I've written nearly 3000 words already on about 25 reviews :yucky:

Keeping mine short 'n' sweet.
I'm hoping to have more time over the weekend to really get through a lot!

EDIT: I probably am too ambitious sometimes. I didn't get a game even half finished for the jam and that's probably why.
I should aim lower. It was one of the busiest weekends I've had in a long time though... I hope to redeem myself next jam.

I realised that I should have focussed on one, maximum two core gameplay mechanics. I wasted way too much time on the changing weapons and exp functions which didn't play a big part in the game and instead should have focussed on adding in some kind of tutorial. Ironically, people have given relatively positive comments about my intro and graphics which took me about half an hour...

I totally 'get' this because I had the same problem. I should have spent more time downscaling and streamlining game content. This and time management were my biggest foes. Read more about it in my 'post mortem' - http://gmc.yoyogames...howtopic=538647

Whew, only 8 games down. I'll have to wait and post all of the reviews at once, because the scores are relative to each other. Still, college just ended for me so I have huge amounts of spare time. Looking forward to playing all of the games that are left!

I have a bit of time free at the moment, so I'm off to play and review more games! :D

Who said that? Heh, I guess I was a bit ambitious and forgot that college life doesn't let you make time-consuming promises...

A few people have lists of all the games they are going to review which don't include mine... I know it was included in the zip, I downloaded it...

Here's a list of the voted games so far, in order of most votes to least.

It will be updated at least once a day.

A few people have been saying that some levels of WillO are too hard. I'd just like to say that if you want to skip a level because you're enjoying the game, you can open the save data config file and set the top value to any number between 0 and 40 for the amount of levels "completed".

I realized the main reason the field-of-view in FT was so small is that I've used a 640/480 aspect ratio in the view code even though the game runs in a 480/272 window. Will be fixed til the post jam version.

Awesome list btw, thank you for doing this. I noticed that mini golf and miniature golf appear on the list. Are there two different ones or perhaps this was a simple typo?

Liking the reviews of Sleepy Maneuver so far, but it feels like most of them don't realize that the yellow orbs are optional to collect, and they still go after them and complain about the optional extra difficulty. If you find the yellow orbs to be too difficult to collect, just don't go after them. They are designed to be difficult to get.

Officially 1/3 of the way done reviewing. Some of these games... wow.

Edit: To clarify, wow means these games are: awesome, frustrating, hilarious, beautiful, bad, or mildly interesting. :turned:

Some games have all those traits? Impossible!
