LAST CHANCE

A simple vertically scrolling shooter. This is a fairly early WIP; but I think it's good enough to show, at least for the sake of general feedback. It's comprised of only 1 (short) level with a boss fight at the end, after which the game resets. Much of it is unfinished and the background is pretty much just a placeholder.

Small window (potentially better speed depending on your system)
Larger window

------------------------------------------
Controls:

Mouse/Touch: Your ship stays just above the mouse cursor/touch point. When on the lower part of the screen, your ship fires upward. When on the top part of the screen, your ship fires downward.

Keyboard: Arrows move, Z fires up, X fires down.
------------------------------------------
Any feedback concerning general performance, specifically that on touch input devices would be most appreciated. :)

Played on PC, the small window. Really good, love the graphics!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. :)

I'm fixing/adding a bunch of things now; but the next update I make here will probably be the full game. I'm aiming for it to have 3 levels total, hopefully that's not too ridiculously short.

It's incredibly annoying when your mouse moves outside the screen and your ship stands still. Use some sort of mouse extension.

Yeah, I had known about that for a bit; but I just hadn't come up with a solution yet. The one I eventually settled on was adding a border so the cursor at least has a little room to wander.

Assuming the next test (soon to be incoming) goes ok and if I have the time, I might use the extra space for some arcade style marquee/cabinet art. :)

Made a minor update, mainly just for the inclusion of the border/padding. Hopefully this will help with the aforementioned issues.

Note:
- You can now select an alternate (browser specific) control mode by pressing Rmouse on the title screen. Using this, Lmouse shoots up, Rmouse shoots down.
- There's a strange glitch which somehow lets you start the game in the middle of or right before the story text, which spawns 2 ships instead of one. I love finding this stuff late. :(

Thank you. I pretty much had to make him more difficult after you said that, though. :D

I released an updated demo (Win/EXE only, though.) It's still only one level; but there's 3 ships to choose from, configurable controls and a new mode ("Extreme".) The web version is running pretty choppy since I started doing more with the backgrounds, so I might have to just hold off on it until the exe version is ready and I can just cut everything down for the sake of speed.

Also, could someone move this thread to the WIP section? It won't be finished for quite awhile.

I tried the HTML5 update with the border. Big improvement. The graphics, sound FX, and gameplay are all good. +1 for that.

Only complaint: the intro text is nearly unreadable. That font is not bad, but the color choices clash with the background. Other than that, great game.
