Neat article. I hope this kid continues making games.

Further proves that games are for everyone.

Indeed. After reading this article, I started looking around. There's a considerable amount of interest in computer games for the blind and low-vision users. Lots of websites offering various tools, as well as games. (Google "games for blind")

I doubt it'll ever be a large market niche, but it's nice to know there are people (like Dylan) working on this. In fact, it'd be a fun challenge to make a game like this.

Peace in the Middle East, or global acceptance of the Kyoto Protocol, might restore my faith in humanity.

This kid... not so much, as nice as he may be.

While those things would restore my faith in humanity to a much greater degree. When someone is willing to go through this much effort for a little enjoyment for someone else really does help get things along. If everyone made a smallish gesture like this we'd be one step closer to resolving the conflict in the Middle East or getting our idoit politicians to agree to Kyoto Protocol.

It's really generous of him, but it looks like he just modified the game tutorials?

That's not the point!
He has actually added loads of extra features, but the focal point is he's ten years old! What were you doing at 10? And if you tell me that you were bonding with your grandmother at as high an extent as this boy then that's unbelievable.
At 10, I sure wish I was as close to my Ma as this little boy. My hat goes to him, an absolute legend.

But I'm actually disgusted at some of the comments like this:

I wish I could say that's amazing, but it's not. That's really simple, as it's just a modified version of the GameMaker tutorials. If you want to see kids making games, you should see the camp I work at. We give them gamemaker and a couple of tutorials, and we see some amazing stuff coming out. We got a FPS with around 8 hours of gameplay, and this kid made it in a WEEK. and it was fun, and everything was his, and all he needed was us to help him once in a while.

Not only do I REALLY believe that that is absolute bull, but it really disgusts me that people put other people down like this.

I really wonder what Dylan doing, and whether he's thinking of another concept for his grandma.

This 10-year-old may very well become one of the world's leading game engineers, if he follows this path.
Truly an amazing story, this one.

He has actually added loads of extra features, but the focal point is he's ten years old!

You missed the point as well.
The point is not just that he's 10 years old, it's that he engineered a game for his blind, old grandmother with whom he has an incredibly strong bond and they do just about everything together. He created this game - this game for blind people - so his grandmother could enter a dimension of his world that was previously impossible for her to perceive and experience.
It's a touching story, and all respect to Dylan for accomplishing this.

It's really generous of him, but it looks like he just modified the game tutorials?

It's absolutely incredibly how thick some people can be in certain cases. No disrespect meant.

Naw, I didn't miss the point at all. I appreciate that, but what I personally take from this story is that he was 10 years old and he has such a strong relationship with his grandmother. As a majority of 10 year olds that I know don't maintain relationships as strong as the one demonstrated.

In my opinion, it wouldn't matter if she wasn't blind - this story would still be just as inspiring in my opinion. However the fact that she was blind and that he was able to allow her into his cyber world just makes this story even more heartwarming.

That's just my opinion :P Each person to their own.

If his grandmother wasn't blind, which unfortunately she is, no one would give a rat's ass if he made a game for her.
It's the situation exactly as it is that makes this story so touching.

I disagree. While nobody would care if she wasn't blind, the fact still remains that it's touching that a 10-year-old is heartwarming. The fact that he made a game at ten, however, isn't so impressive. I, for example was making games younger. Still. The fact remains that the story is touching, and that's what matters.

So 10-year-old's and below can't be heartwarming all of the sudden? That's some statement to put out.

But we all agree on this level: touching story. Way to go Dylan and thumbs up grandma.

Amazing, a kid willing to share his passion of video games to his blind grandmother by making a game earns my acknowledgement. Bravo, Dylan.

that was great. Some jerk called it "unimpressive" and provided an "impressive" answer about a kid at his camp. I wanted to shoot him. That really was great though. Good problem solving for a 5th grader.

I didn't mean it that way, I am sorry. I agree completely with you, I just looked at the screenshot. That comment is pretty messed up, also. I don't understand what kind of person would just post all the sh*t about a ten year old. He is just stupid.
