Poll now permits multiple choices... Seems pointless as it is, but have fun! Maybe over the course of a year or so it will eventually give some real indication of worth, but I doubt it...

So now the first 4(or so) voters, which includes me, have only gotten to pick 1, while others get more >_>

Well, whatever.

Iji already won a large poll like this, when it was voted King of the Cagematch. I suppose we'll see if people still feel the same way?

There were only 3 votes when I did it, but if you tell me who else you want to vote for then IŽll add your votes too.

Oh, thanks, Nocturne.
I already voted for Iji.
My next votes would be Spelunky, Robbie Swifthand, and Assassin Blue.

And my 3rd is that bird game where you start as an egg and acquire all those skills... Huge exploring game. Too bad I cant remember the name...

Sounds like An Untitled Story.

Never finished, but enjoyed greatly. (and considering I never finished it.. I still played it longer than 99% of the other GM games I've played!!)

Ah yes. a marvelous game. a must play.

My favourite was Dubloon by Banov, but it wasn't listed there. I've only played about half of the games listed though.

Voted for Clean Asia! (still my favourite GameMaker-made game to date), Seiklus, and Hover Tank 3D. I would also have voted for Essence Child (doesn't really hold up nowadays but fantastic back when it was new out and my original favourite before Clean Asia!) and Another Day in the Life of Bob were they there, but they weren't so I stuck with three votes. :)

My favourite 2D game genre happens to be platform games so my vote went to TNTBF.

Also, I think Grid Defender 2 is worth of a mention Posted Image

Adding any choice, after the voting has started is silly.

I accidentally selected null vote to see what the votes were (DOH).

My picks are The Cleaner(All time Favorite game), Jumper series (best level design), and Frozzd (2dCube always deserves my vote)
Originally wanted to choose THE ULTIMATE CHUCHU. But that game has aged. Still a sucker for fast paced action.

My picks are The Cleaner(All time Favorite game) [...]

Don't worry crazy man, I was the first to vote for that one. And I agree, out of that list it's certainly 'the best'. I feel like it's an ancient gem of Game Maker, held back only by resolution changing and a bad latter half (in terms of level design and bosses, where the first few areas really shined). It also has the absolute best soundtrack out of any freeware PC game ever released in the history of the universe. Who WOULDN'T vote for that game, dude?

*looks at topic* :huh: Wouldn't a better method of voting be to simply have members post with their 'votes' one by one? It seems inaccurate to have an incomplete list like this... but that's OK! I won't criticize. Any list with The Cleaner is OK in my book... but wait... where's Megabot... ;-;

You silly kids... forgetting the classics... *sigh*

Unavoidable. But having members post their favorites is better anyway -- especially if they explain why, and provide a link.

That's the best way to expose some excellent games to members who may not know about them.

Yes, it's a good topic.

the op should grab the suggestions and add them to the main post. Maybe add the games in the vote list and we can re-vote. I know I can re-cast my vote... and I can also edit the poll setup

So far I am loving the community response. As much as I knew Iji was a well made game, I didn't know that this many people found it to be so influential. It holds the most votes by far. :woot:

Well, judging from the votes, the most influential Game Maker games are:
  • Iji by Ultimortal(2010) (16 votes [11.94%])
  • Karoshi by 2Dcube(2008) (9 votes [6.72%])
  • Caveman Craig By RhysAndrew(2008) (8 votes [5.97%])
  • THEY NEED TO BE FED created by 2Dcube(2010) (7 votes [5.22%])
  • DEATH WORM created by JTR(2007) (7 votes [5.22%])
  • Jumper series by YoMamasMama(2004-2008) (6 votes [4.48%])
  • SEIKLUS created by tapeworm(2003) (6 votes [4.48%])
  • Spelunky by Derek Yu(2008) (6 votes [4.48%])
  • Assassin Blue by banov(2008 ) (6 votes [4.48%])
  • FROZZD by 2Dcube(2007) (5 votes [3.73%])

 Thank you all for helping me put together this list. I really enjoyed hearing all your favorite games and why you found them so good. Some of these I had never even heard of before now. I really appreciate the community feedback and also thank the mods for being so helpful in putting the poll together. I most especially thank ugriffin, Desert dog and Nocturne for all there support.

 Sadly I shall be absent for the next few days due work related assignments. Till then, I turn this over to the mods to conclude this little discussion. Feel free to have it continue or closed.

Once again thank you all.

Mazimadu

<snip>

I'm surprised there aren't any RPG/medieval games, or zombie shooters among them.

Actually, I'm relieved.

GameMaker's "finale" is yet to come -- not behind us. So Takagi's word choice makes no sense.

Wow, I totally misused the word "heyday" which I thought was more akin to "good ol' days". An honest misunderstanding. :)
