Lemme see... what games were *big* in the heyday?

Shawn64 games. They were amazing. Sadly, he passed away 5-6 years ago, so we won't see any of that. But his Jetz games, and his game Infection were ALL THE RAGE. Same thing with Dex games. Never saw the appeal of Dex. It was an okay RPG-ish game, rather dull, decent graphics, no sounds, and the game play got a bit repetitive, but I remember people raving over it. Ore no Ryomi (and its sequel) by Mr. Chubigans are also legends. Seiklus and The Cleaner were already mentioned.

Whether or not they shaped Game Maker and its community is a bit in the air, but these are games I used to look up to. :)

Nonsense. The "heyday" is just now starting with GM:Studio. It's ahead of us, not behind us.

What you're describing are the early "formative years" -- certainly not the heyday.

Yeah like Takagi said a heyday is like a victory or huge finale...

GameMaker's "finale" is yet to come -- not behind us. So Takagi's word choice makes no sense.

But I agree with his choice of games. Some of those are definitely worth mentioning.

I think Seiklus was the first GM game (Other than the tutorials) I ever played. It certainly made a big impression on me, and I think it surely deserves to be on this list. That being said, I can see how some other people wouldn't like it. Most of the challenge of the game, is the exploration. Most of the reward, is discovering new and wonderful areas. I can see how some people like more challenging games such as the Jumper series.

Supercasey's Lab14 was pretty big for a while. It may not have had the best gameplay in the world, but its out-of-the-box puzzle strategies had several people realizing there was more that Game Maker could do than they thought.

Virtanen had a few real influential games too, like Painajainen and Seven Minutes.

Flying Squire's Seraphim Flame and The Hanrahan Game were also big for their time.

I think there are more game developers that have been influential than independent games, as they have made a series of successful games, namely, JW, Cactus, Derek Yu, etc.

Topic made into a poll at OP's request.

You seem to misunderstand my reasoning for why Rolla doesn't qualify.

He understands just fine. And you can justify your reasoning all you want. But the the fact of the matter is; you solicitied input for the best games, and it is not a list of the best games; it's in fact mazimadu's favourite games.

But if you where given the task of selecting the Creme de la creme of Game Maker creations and presenting them to someone who has never heard of the program, would you point to this game and say it is one of the best?

You weren't given such a task, you created a topic.

Which is why I won't be voting in this poll...

Oops. Right, I wrote that before I realised that you can't set it to 'pick 5'. Or I'm just really nooby making polls. All fixed now! :turned:

I don't feel it has no value. And I appreciate why some people would enjoy voting in it. Rather, I just feel it might be biased, which is why I won't be voting on it.

But if you feel differently, go ahead and vote. That's why I made the poll, so that those who want to vote can vote. :)

Ah the prime of yoyogames.com
I do miss it. Coming home every day, turning on the computer, opening up yoyogames.com all excited just to see what great games came out that day.

The Hanrahan Game was probably my favourite game others great games I enjoyed and made me want to make games were:
Visit + Visit 2
Robbie Swifthand and the Orb of Mysteries
Dark Hive
Deep Magic
The Curse of Kaumaha

It might be biased? A poll about personal favorites is -- by definition -- biased.

So go ahead and vote. The goal is to learn something about the Community "favorites".

Poll now permits multiple choices... Seems pointless as it is, but have fun! Maybe over the course of a year or so it will eventually give some real indication of worth, but I doubt it...

My favorite GM game is Stick Online http://www.stick-online.com/ . It is a simple 2D mmo fighting game. It has had a server on for the most part of 7 years and has had many updates and many players. The game has had tournaments upwards of 200 + people on the same server. It is up right now and is having its a Easter event.

As of now Stick online is on its second revamp. But the next planned revamp (Stick Online 3) will not be made in game maker. But for the best would be this game for me. LONG LIVE THE STICK!

Sounds like An Untitled Story.

Never finished, but enjoyed greatly. (and considering I never finished it.. I still played it longer than 99% of the other GM games I've played!!)
