There's mods from all over the world.

I live in the UK, but I was made a mod in Canada. There's an amazing amount of North American mods, True Valhalla is from Australia, Yellow Afterlife lives in Ukraine, etc.

I suppose it helps, actually; having mods from many different time zones means the community can be moderated round the clock without putting strain on anybody. And congratulations guys - there's not one of you whom I do not believe deserves their new position and I am sure you will do an excellent job of fulfilling it.

All good choices, except for the one Chance pointed out.

But here's the problem.

There exists a certain phenomenon, I don't don't why it exists but it does.

When members are promoted to moderators, they almost always stop posting content, or greatly reduce the content they do post.

Take any mod or admin, review their posting history and for the most part the overwhelming majority of their posts will be GMC related content with minimal non-GMC content. It may not happen right away but, but the there are not very many exceptions.

This round of new staff has created a fair amount of new moderators and perhaps because the larger number of new mods it will be less of an issue. But historically this has been the cycle.

  • Member joins GMC
  • Member posts a lot of good content
  • Member is well behaved
  • Member becomes a local moderator
  • Member posts considerably less content
  • Member becomes a global moderator
  • Member posts even less content
  • Member becomes Administrator.
  • Member posts zero (non-GMC) content

The exception was Ragarnak. Who knows maybe me pointing this out will reduce the problem.

In the past, the percentage of staff members specifically from Massachusetts has been quite high. Won't say the names as I don't know if they'd like people to know, but there has been at least three to my knowledge (including myself).

That's the idea. I hope a lot of fresh faces and an active group of Globals will reduce the overall workload and help maintain normal posting levels for all. We sometimes go too long between staff infusions which creates burnout and throws the posting / moderating ratio way out of balance. I'd like to see more frequent staff rotations in the future.

Not to be alarmist, but it's something our new staff should be wary of. I post much, much less than used to and would like to. I'm trying to turn that around because my joy for the community comes from being able to help other members through regular posting.

I mean [Dangerous Dave]'s a self-acclaimed dangerous person.

Self-proclaimed, surely? Unless mania is now a desirable quality...

Who will be taking to what forums? Yal presumably will assist at Game Ideas and Design? Unsure about the others. Quite a large influx of moderators - the biggest I've ever seen.

[...]

Quite true, but I think this is the lifecycle of anyone on any forums. It's just that it's probably more pronounced in mods due to other forum commitments, and that we tend to notice it more due to their overall prominence.

YoYo is expecting a large influx of new members due to the upcoming release of GM:Studio. More users mean (potentially) more necessary moderation.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! And chance, I know you're talking about me, so I have my training banhammer at the ready :P .

Don't worry, I'll be a very fair mod...unless you annoy me. Do that, and it's a one-way trip to nowheresville, man. And now I wonder if anyone every actually spoke like that  .

Slightly worried about the same thing as NPT. Not just GMC exclusive in my opinion, someone gets made mod anywhere its like they feel the need to step back from posting like a regular community member.

Congrats guys, and please keep up your regular awesome posting ;)

Yes. It has always been a very devious method to shut them up.

Congratulations to these people. I have a question. To be a moderator you have to live in UK and near to other moderators or you can be from any country?

Physical location has nothing to do with it. We have people now from Easter Europe, Northern Europe, Australia, America etc etc etc...

Easter Europe?

Did you do Geography for a GCSE? Because it's not showing :P

EDIT: Slightly more on topic, congrats to all.

Don't worry everyone, I was surprised as some of you might be...especially the people that I've somewhat aggressively argued with in the past (Blake lol). I'll have to cut back on that, but I plan to remain active.

Congratulations to my new fellow moderators - leave some for me! :P

Sweet, you can no longer see when I edit my posts

Along with the infinite PM messages, this is the best part of being a moderator! I hope there's infinite reputation points per day too haha.

Personally, since I usually keep one PM thread per user, I've never had a problem with the number of PMs. I have one PM with over 200 pages of replies, but it only counts as one :D

200 pages?! That's insane :P

Also, we totally do have unlimited rep points, just tested it. You're welcome, first page posters.
