Download: http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/games/195047-suicide-square

I made the original game during the Global Game Jam.
you can download the original here: http://globalgamejam.../suicide-square

by the way, there is no sound.

Gameplay
- you control a green square
- if you die you leave behind a body
- with every death you shrink just a little bit
- the smaller you are the slower you move, and the less high you jump

Controls
- WASD or arrow keys to move
- Backspace to return to home screen
- R to restart levels

Level Sets
- the start screen contains an optional level*
- 3 levels with words on them
- 6 levels with electric blocks
- 6 levels with lava
- 6 levels with buttons
- 6 levels with springs
- 6 levels with resizing powerups
- 6 levels with poison (some of which have pressure pads)

*if you do somehow manage to beat the level on the start screen** you gain the ability to skip and go back levels using the Z and X keys.***
**be warned, it's really tricky
***this does not unlock the levels

Details
- game runs at 30 fps
- resolution is 640x480
- tiles are 16x16

I would love any feedback you have for me.

Really nice level design. A lot of levels looked pretty straight-forward, only to have an interesting twist that you realized half-way into them and felt like you should have seen all along. Good puzzles, solid character movement. The graphics weren't anything impressive, but they did perfectly convey everything and they certainly didn't detract from the game. Normally I don't like characters to be squares, as that's usually bad character design, but here I thought it was appropriate considering the gameplay and hit-box importance.

Well done - 9/10
I'd easily recommend this to everyone, and hope you manage to think up some more clever levels.

Sounds like a brilliant concept! Downloading now :)

Plays quite well, I'm impressed! Some ideas:
-the usual recommendation to get some shiny new graphics, sound, and clean up the menu.
-some sort of level selection screen
-need some speed/time-related obstacles! Hammers/crushers you need to avoid, moving platforms, platforms that reappear and disappear, platforms that break when you stand on them, and so on.
-more buttons for more doors (not just the final level door), including TIMED buttons that only stay open for a certain length of time!
-make the buttons switches, that once changed, stay changed. Then have seperate pressure plates that are only activated if the player or the player's body is on it.
-buttons that control platforms?
-a key to kill the player where they stand.
-teleporters!
-with changing size comes changing MASS, so make puzzles like that. For example, pressure that require a certain mass to activate them, and also physics based puzzles, like a see-saw!
-blocks for the player to push around? and also, allow the player to push around their bodies, perhaps?
-from that mass idea, what about MOMENTUM? momentum = mass*velocity. So there could be blocks that break if you hit 'em with enough momentum!
-it looks like those traps are electric... what if the player was conductive? They could kill themselves in positions to complete circuits to open doors and stuff. For example, a simple puzzle would be: kill yourself to complete a wire connection between the final door and the switch, stand on the switch and kill yourself to keep it open, and finally, run through the open door!
-map editor, so people can create and share puzzles!

Good luck with your game, mate!

Poison tiles are very clever.

What about freezing tiles? You freeze for a while, which counts as a 'death', but then you thaw soon after and get to continue playing as that character. For example:

Player freezes. The next guy runs over and hits a button, then kills himself. At this point, the first player unfreezes, and continues. When that player dies, the next one spawns.

Pretty much, if you die and there is a frozen player, that player unfreezes!
