I tried to purchase GM:HTML5 today and found out that it runs through Google Checkout and FORCES you to provide credit card details. I mean... seriously? I don't have a credit card. You can't just assume that every user has a credit card and, furthermore, is willing to provide its details, even if they want to pay through Paypal or something similar.

Spoiler

What's the deal with that!?

Okay, that's good to hear. Did you guys have a look at the image in the spoiler tags? Did that page come up for you? If not, did you already have a google account with a credit card added to it?

Specifically, what I did was go to yoyogames.com, open the GameMaker drop down box, click on HTML5, click the banner at the top, put in my email and click proceed and finally click the google checkout button, which took me to the page displayed in the screenshot.

Actually no, the image in the spoiler tag does not load for me. But that said I didn't pay with Google checkout at all I paid via Paypal.

However they may have changed their payment process since then to.

If you don't have a credit card, are you are unwilling to give up your CC details you can always buy a Visa/MasterCard branded gift card, or get one of those prepaid cards you can buy in stores and load just enough money on it to buy the program and dump it.

Unfortunately anymore if your going to buy something online it requires a CC.

Didn't have, or didn't see, google checkout when I brought it (which was pretty much as soon as it was released)

Perhaps try contacting YYG's, if you can't find a/the paypal payment option.

That's what I wanted to avoid  Although, if I understand correctly, you get access to paying through paypal after you add your credit card details... :yucky: Why...? Why make me add credit card details if I'm going to use paypal anyway?

Sorry, we no longer use Paypal after we had a major dispute with them. We are working to get other payment options in which will allow much broader payment options.

Thanks for the clarification Mike, even if it is very disappointing. Depending on whether or not I can use these other payment options in the future, you may have lost a customer.

I would recommend if you have efpos that you invest in a debit card. A debit card basically acts as a credit card but with your funds. Get it setup into a different account then add only the amount you want (e.g. you need to pay). Only put funds when needed and that can take away some of the security risk and you get your copy of HTML5.

I must admit i was a bit wary too when using google checkout for Game Maker 8.1, however I also refuse to use paypal.

Unfortunately, PayPal are neither a bank, or a credit supplier, and this means there are very little laws or rules for them to follow, and that in turn means they can just hold onto your cash for however long they see fit. This is terrible, as there is NO appeal outside of Paypal itself, and they can just ignore you if they feel like it. This all adds up to PayPal simply not being an option any more.

You can go of course go and get a pre-paid credit card. This should stops ALL worries about doing any kind of trading on the NET as you "could" get a pre-paid one for each transaction you do, and even if someone stole it (Google are just as secure as PayPal), then it's limited to what ever cash you put on the card in the first place.

You are FAR better off using the new system as it is backed by a real bank... PayPal is NOT and as such can do just about anything it wants with your money (there have been a number of scandals where paypal have not handed money over to people due to them claiming "fraud"), nor are they regulated in any way by the laws that govern banks. Honestly, you should be more worried about PayPal than most other payment systems that are available.

If you have a paypal account you can sign up to have them send you their debit which ties into your account. It costs you nothing. This was how I purchased my copy so that I could still use paypal.

I understand this may not be the right option for you. I just didnt know if you knew it was possible.
