I think game and design needs at least one other mod. I've... never seen any form of moderation even when it very badly requires it. I'm sure Takagi's a great guy, but well his last login was a week and a half ago and he's pretty consistently off-line.
Yeah they could use new moderators. I'd wish that they would remove topics that are created by spam bots.

Game Design doesn't need much moderation. The biggest offense is an occasional "vague topic" where someone wants ideas, but doesn't really have any design to speak of.I think game and design needs at least one other mod. I've... never seen any form of moderation even when it very badly requires it.
Usually when that happens, other members "encourage" him to supply some detail.

It's honestly less the flame and bad threads such so much as failure to respond to spam and illegal posts. Spam lasts for days, and there was recently a thread which was locked in a day by nocturne for discussing cracks of games (legality aside it's against forum rules), which then failed to be locked EVER when reposted in game and design verbatim. And of course flame posts, while rare, also fail to get responded to. It's not like adding one additional mod is harmful anyways.

Yeah, yeah, everyone´s a critic...It seemed Nocturne locked topics that shouldn't be locked instead of ones that should be locked.
You have a very valid point, and it´s being looked into as we speak...I think game and design needs at least one other mod.

I'd be a good moderator.

1. Normal forum goers and topic starters/participants in GI&D will respond appropriately to the worse topics.
2. It is one section of the entire forums. Understandably, larger areas require greater numbers of mods... or areas where more real issues arise, not just ideas and theories and a few more variants of social behaviour which do not necessarily represent technical or work orientated mindsets. What is the purpose of further strictness?
3. What is the actual reason for closing a topic unless it has some serious inherent issues, or if there are no reports?

Best thing you've ever said! I completely agree.
We don't need any moderation there at all.
I miss frostblade though.. He was the fairest moderator of them all. Oh and KC LC.. and Takagi.

In general, a topic is closed because it fails to follow the rules set out by the forum, but sometimes a moderator may close a topic because it is inciting a flame war, or because it´s gone completely off topic... or any other reason that they think is suffiently valid. They also re-open closed topics if they are requested because they can make mistakes!!! I´ve done it myself...3. Again... what problems? This is the result of Frostblade's unfortunate retirement; when there was him and Takagi, problems were dealt with very quickly or never arose.
The level of civility is generally good, compared to other GMC sub-forums. And disallowed topics aren't that common. I agree the Design forum receives little moderation -- but that's because little is necessary.
Not saying another moderator is a bad idea. I'm just wondering what prompted this sudden concern about the Design forum.

For me it's not a sudden concern; I end up reporting most of the topics that break rules in that forum, so they tend to be high visibility to me. It's quite a civil forum, and you don't get rules being broken in ways that are damaging - but equally you have topics and users who bend the rules, and which don't do the forum any justice.

If people see moderators as fair and exemplary characters, maybe there isn't any harm in promoting someone. By the looks of it, Frostblade enjoyed participating in the forums as well as moderating.. and people enjoyed his contributions. It's like if you had a well known game designer offer to come in and help... well who wouldn't want that? Maybe it can give the place a bit of spirit, maybe it will stirr a few people up. Who knows?
It's all a matter of opinion/preference, not a matter of urgency. As long as people focus on what they want to do, what they want to say/post etc, everything should all work out. If they want someone to lead the discussions, that's their decision.
By the way, if there is anyone called Ziltoid on these forums, please speak up! We need you!
He would be an excellent moderator!

I agree with you. But I also believe not all sub-forums need the same level of moderation. It's quite a civil forum, and you don't get rules being broken in ways that are damaging - but equally you have topics and users who bend the rules, and which don't do the forum any justice.
Again... what problems?
For example, the Distributing Games forum is filled with repetitive questions -- mostly answered by pinned topics. More aggressive moderation won't accomplish anything (except exasperate the moderator). It's just the nature of that audience.
Conversely, the Programming and Mathematics forum is actually useful. And misplaced topics there can damage the forum by attracting more novices. So the moderators are quick to remove them.
In other words: the right level of moderation for each forum. Overall, I think the GMC has it about right.

Frostblade, as far as I can summise the inner thoughts of the moderating team, was chosen because of his participation in the forums; his posts were informative and helpful, and he demonstrated through his activities the qualities for which people are given responsibilities. It's a shame when people like that disappear - he was gone by the time I returned to the forums, so I'm not sure what prompted him to leave (guess: life).By the looks of it, Frostblade enjoyed participating in the forums as well as moderating.. and people enjoyed his contributions. It's like if you had a well known game designer offer to come in and help... well who wouldn't want that?
