Hello! Sorry if I write wrong, I understand very little English.
Can I buy gamemaker version 8.0? I only see where you can buy a 8.1.

In theory, it's still possible to buy from Softwrap, but after extensive searching I can't find a link. In fact, the softwrap site lists the release of GM8.0 under the recent news section, implying that maybe they haven't ben active since they lost the sales of GM. Anyway, I don't believe 8.0 is supported any more. The real question is, why would you want to buy 8.0, when GM8.1 is available, has semi-regular updates (GM8.0 has none) and just has more features in general?

According to many users, gamemaker 8.1, which previously used the 8.0, 8.1 has more bugs. For example, many times there were complaints that the game on version 8.1 does not run, showing an error. In addition, improvements in version 8.1 is more inclined to work with user-friendly resource game, but not to improved optimization games. New functions 8.1, I think, not so hard to write yourself.

8.1 may have started with more bugs, but it has had regular updates. I don't see people complaining about the 8.1 bugs any more.

There is a lite version available for GM8.1. Download it and have a play, see if you like it, see if you find bugs, etc.

While I generally agree with 8.1 being as bug-free as 8.0 and with more functoinality, I know of a case where a game created in GM8.0 works perfectly, however the same game exported with GM8.1 works fine on one system yet mysteriously crashes on another, and none of our team have any clue whatsoever as to why. This means that if we were to update the game we'll have to do that in 8.0. However this is the only case I know that causes problems in 8.1.

So, just saying, this is a valid question. :)

The buyer should weigh the remote chance of an unknown problem with 8.1, against the known problems with 8.0:

1. dealing with softwrap
2. fewer features
3. no updates

So his question may be valid... but I know which choice I'd make.

I bought the apprentice book with the lite version and upgraded to 8 (for $39) and then was going to do free upgrade to 8.1 but the process as described in the FAQ is incorrect and tries to charge another $39 for 8.1 when it is supposed to give me a free update. The FAQ says to put your reference/order number in the promocode field but it does not have a promocode area. Either way I'm trying to get an upgrade to Studio and publish to HTML 5. I actually want Studio with HTML 5, Android and IOS modules but don't want to pay $600.

I actually prefer 8.0s room editor as apposed to 8.1s. Plus many useful extensions are still only 8.0. I see where he's coming from. It's like buying an older game console over a brand new one, the older one has more stuff and generally less glitches but the newer one has more potential. I like 8.1 but 8.0 still has a lot of good qualities.

I suggest you contact the YoYoGames help desk. There certainly used to be a promo code area, and we all upgraded to GM8.1 just fine when it was released. The help desk should be able to confirm if they are still doing free upgrades, and if they are, how to claim yours.

Help desk: http://yoyogames.mojohelpdesk.com/

Edit: Also, GM8.0 and 8.1 can be installed alongside each other, there's no reason not to get both.
