Hi, everyone.

It's been a fairly long time since I've posted on the GMC, but I'm glad to be back. I'm happy to announce my new game, Storycraft.
I know, I know. Some of you might be saying "such an original title", but I think any game ending in -craft is good. True story, though this probably doesn't live up to the name to be quite honest with you.

Storycraft is text-based game, where the player(you) must make choices from the scenario given to you. These choices affect your journey significantly, as each branch will give you an alternate ending.

I'll be honest; this is an extremely difficult project. So if anyone would like to help with branching out the story, be my guest(PM me). I'm also looking for an artist who could draw backdrops of the scenes described, just saying. And with that, I present to you Storycraft.

Shift-Backspace = Clear entire input
Escape = Exit game

You'll only need to download the game once.
Storycraft (3.9MB)

Here's the text file to accompany the game. You need this in order to run the game. Edit it to your heart's desire(it's not encrypted).
Storycraft Text File (8.9KB)

Before running Storycraft, be sure to have both the game and the text file in the same directory.
Please leave any comments or concerns, and I'll be glad to respond. Enjoy!

I really like how this is shaping up! I sent you a PM.

Also anyone who plays this: make sure you don't have another .txt file in the same directory or it may use it instead. : P

How hard is it make something like this? I was actually thinking of trying to make one of these, as it has recently become one of my fav game genres. TADS are fun, though complicated.

It took me a while to figure out how to actually create the system. So my mind set was to read a string file and "analyze" it. Sure, it took a while. I like the outcome, though.

I do need to fix the multiple .txt files in the same folder. Guess I'll put some sort of ID to make sure it's legit... I'll fix it!

And to make this game took a couple days just to figure everything out. Honestly, I went about it wrong when I made my prototype. I used "branches" like a family tree to organize everything, but that took too long. So I decided to use precisely elements since it's a lot easier to work with.

I think I might want to implement some sort of inventory or stats or probability checks. It might make the game "interesting" because in its current state(without graphics), Storycraft is pretty boring and repetitive. But I'm glad people enjoy this same genre as me. It's a large project, and any help is appreciated.

Thanks for replying guys.

reminds me of another game someone made recently, it's the same idea, except when the branches run out, it allows you to add new ones, and everyone online can see them :P
