I have a good working knowledge of GameMaker, and a few years experience with it.
My key talents are in design, development and music.
I will be looking for a:
Sprite artist
Background artist
Distribution coordinator
Details on the project below:
The as yet untitled project is in pre production and is near completion and ready to begin production.
However, I intend to leave the project in pre production until we have a full staff.
The more intimately involved with the project each member is, the better understanding of the whole they will have.
This will aid in the cohesion of design of the final product.
The project is a platform/action game; it employs scripted enemy placement and events to force the player to constantly adapt to each new situation as the core challenge.
The earth is being torn apart by a crippling gravitational anomaly
Thematically it is a desperate sprint to the source of the end of the world.
This theme is reinforced though level design, gameplay, music and visual tone.
Visually and aurally it is presented in 8 bit style.
However it will take some liberties on this with things such as layered backgrounds to reinforce the scope of what is happening all around the player.
The palette will consist of vibrant colors juxtaposed against solid blacks, and darker backgrounds.
The backgrounds will convey a sense of urgency and scope with scenes of buildings collapsing, and the earth being torn apart.
These same elements will be used in gameplay through scripted events. ie..
Having to make a mad dash along rooftops to avoid a collapsing syscraper.
Having to leap from the rooftop to a flaming bus as it is pulled from the earth the way that chunks of the earth are in the background.
Leaping from one piece of floating debris to the next, having minimal time to deal with the enemies on screen.
The gameplay will mostly be fast paced, with necessary breaks in tempo throughout the 8 or so levels.
There are many more gameplay mechanics that change the style of play and level of challenge and force the player to adapt to the situation, however I don't wan't to outline everything here.
A great deal of thought has gone into the pacing of the game, and that will be something I will discuss with interested members.
There is great freedom in the enemy design, and generally the more outrageous the better.
ie, a technicolor bear that fires explosive spades (the playing card icon) when it roars.
These preposterous scenes will be depicted with a stone faced seriousness.
It will become quite a psychedelic and technicolor end to the world, that will constantly provide fresh new scenarios, backgrounds and challenges to the player.
There is a central connecting story point and theme connecting all of this, but I don't want to give it all away on here.
We are all on here making games for the love of them, and to further ourselves and our talents.
I am no different, and as such will not be able to secure pay for the services of those involved.
That is why I would like to see one member in charge of distribution; to either get this game to as many people as possible to let that talent be seen, or to ensure it's place on digital distribution software for a fee.
I will be unavailable over the next couple of weeks, but interested members are invited to contact me, and I will reply as soon as I return.
Although only a small group is necessary, any service or involvement will be considered and appreciated.
PM me for more details:)
ps, Here is a sample of the title music.
It conveys the urgency, sense of duty, and tone of the game.
