Are 15 Enemies enough?

Are 15 enemies enough for a platformer hack n slash game? - not including the traps and the boss battles

It depends...

If you are doing a "hack and slash" then the game is more focused on enemies that on platforming, and so you probably need a bigger variety of enemies. One way to help with variety is to increase "situational" variance, for example in mario games, where you run into 3 goombas together, then run into a set of enemies mixed up, then another of the same enemy group, but in a different order, then maybe something similar, but stuck in a smaller area, well...you get the idea. That's how you can make a smaller enemy variety, but though it could increase variety in the game, some players will still notice the lack of actual different enemies.

Also depends on how long the game is. Is it a short, fun, ten minute experience? Or a fully fledged story? Or an arcade style game? For a short game, or possibly an arcade style game, maybe. For a fully fledged story, probably not. Try playing your game against those enemies for however long the game will be, and see if it is too boring or repetitive. :turned:

Thanks for answering both of you :) well there are traps and bosses too so i will give it a go and see if its not too boring to play the game :)

Depends how distinctive they are from each other too.
If it's just the same attack patterns just with more damage and health, that is inherently boring no matter how many enemies you keep throwing in.

As far as basic enemies, I think iji has like.. 8 or so, and it's friggin' awesome. They're well designed and they have multiple weapon types, so that helps. I think bioshock had around 8 also. So really it doesn't matter as long as they're fun.

You haven't told us anything about the enemies, how they attack, when they attack, what weapons they have, and how you defeat them. So... what answer do you expect to such a vague question?

Why not describe the enemies and tell us something about the game? Then you'll get some specific opinions you can use.

There are two popular sayings that help me figure out exactly how many enemies I need for my games:

1) The more, the merrier.
2) A little goes a long way.

Sounds like you have the perfect amount for your game. ;)

On a serious note, I suck at action games. As long as each enemy has a unique attack sequence and can each give me a cool death animation, I'll be ok with it.

Glad to see you have something working. So +1 for a good start.

But do all 15 enemies look/behave like that? Or are the other 14 different?

Each enemy varies different from the rest. Some run towards you, Some run away while firing, Some throw stuff etc. I will show more in the next video when i am done with lil polishing on them.
