it seams that the variable keyboard_string which holds the last 1024 character is not working at all in html 5 . any alternatives? (i'm tring to make a input filed )

Which version are you using? I have it working in 1.0.208. It always uses the British layout (where Shift+3 gives a pound sterling sign rather than a #), which is a little annoying but by no means unbearable.
