Are we aloud to modify gm exes with a resource editor? Like PE explorer, XNResource editor, etc? Since I already heard from an admin that gm html5's js runner is fine to modify in notepad, then this shouldnt be much different.

The only thing I'd use this for is running the games load screen in full screen and subtle things such as that. This same thing can be done with a dll, without editing the exe, but dlls can't modify the load screen because dlls can only load after the load bar is full and the main window is opened, thus defeating the purpose of what I'd like to do.

I asked this over at the sandbox and they said I can't but I'm just confirming. The admins here seem to know a lot more about this kind of thing.

Thanks!

No, you may NOT modify someone's .exe unless the author gives you permission. And even with his permission, you may be breaking the YoYo EULA if you touch the runner embedded in the .exe.

Look, if a YoYoGames staffer / Admin already said NO, then that's your answer. Why ask here?

Will you keep asking until you get the answer you want? From somebody... from anybody? Just to justify your actions? :dry:

I doubt that any admin has told you to go ahead and modify the Html5 runner... Are you sure you got that right? As for modifying the exe, I think you'll find that that is against the EULA :

1.2. You must not:

  • use, copy, transfer or distribute the Software or part of it other than as permitted by these Terms;
  • modify, adapt, merge, translate, decompile, disassemble, decompile or reverse engineer or create derivative works out of the Software except where applicable law expressly requires otherwise in which case all and any modifications, adaptations or improvements and all Intellectual Property Rights in them shall belong to, vest in and be the exclusive property of YoYo Games on creation but subject to licence granted at clause 1.1 above;
  • remove, disable, modify, add to or tamper with any program code or data, copyright, trademark or other proprietary notices and legends contained within the object (compiled) code of the Software. You are not allowed to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the program.

I wasn't justifying anything. I was just confirming. I got the idea I thought the guy that said no didn't know what he was talking about. I guess I was wrong. No need for me to ask again.

@nocturne, I looked at my topic about the html5 js runner and turns out it wasn't an admin that said it was alright, strange I could've sworn. Thanks for the confirmation.

Just to save you from thinking you have a mental breakdown - that "guest" in the post you linked was mike.dailly, in the last forum crash his account was "removed" (strangely only his account it seems :P).

Correct, it was Mike. BUT he didn't say it was allright to modify the JS! He was asking why that user chose to try and modify the JS to do something that an extension already exists to do for you... your question was actually never answered as the topic was de-railed by another user.
