I have GameMaker 8.1 Lite. When I try to test a game (by clicking the green or red arrows) it will start loading and then stop and give me this message:
"D3DCreateDevice() Error: Please check that your graphics card meets the minimum requirements and that your drivers are up-to-date. If your graphics card has little memory, try switching your computer to a lower resolution. (Error: -2005530516)"

I'm pretty sure that my graphics card is fine, and changing the resolution doesn't work. What do I need to do?

I checked my graphics card. It's DirectX11 (DirectX8 or later is required), and there's way more than enough memory. How do I update my drivers or check to see if they're up-to-date?

There's a lot of free clients out there, like driver max or something, from your control panel I think their is also an option for updates of some kind in the hardware however, I don't know your OS. Of course, you've already tried restarting?

I have Windows 7. I haven't restarted my computer manually, but it's crashed several times when I try to do things on it (not related to GameMaker). I'm not sure if that counts as a restart.

I read the thread, but I'm still a bit confused as to what I need to do. Do I just have to update my drivers?

does your anti-virus (avast or malwarebytes) freeze during scan, if so install avg free edition and do a rootkit scan if Win32k.sys comes up as infected then you can start worrying. backup important files online (do not use a hard drive or flash drive because I think the rootkit spreads) and restore your computer to its origanal factory state.Do not worry your gm liscence will still be valid. However if it does not freeze then just update your drivers .

yes, if malware bytes and avast freeze at anypoint during a scan then you have the virus, if they freeze download avg and do a scan

I found what virus scanning software I have (Microsoft Security Essentials) and it detected no viruses when I performed a scan. Should I just update my drivers?

Ok, I found the page where I can download the drivers, but it says that the only drivers they have are drivers that didn't come with the computer. Do I download these or update my existing drivers ? Also ,how do I update my existing drivers (if I need to)?

I downloaded all of the drivers they had in the "latest category", but I still get the error, so this clearly did not work. Do I need to do something to the files once they're downloaded? If not, can I delete these files because they take up a lot of memory?
