I think most of these examples have those limitations. Xot has simply put forth the effort to tell us them.

Xot totally smashed this challenge to pieces IMHO. Awesome work.

That's the spirit!

On a side note, when will the winners be announced?

I'm planning to have everything done before the end of this week.

Well it has been a while now. Did the GMC challenge die to so quickly? I am still interested in participating in the next challenge presented.

Was this a one off thing? I got the impression there would be more of these, but it seems this one hasn't finished yet...

The intention was to have more of these, but the reviewing hasn't been done for this one yet.

Obviously this is a failure :\
We need the Cage Match! Let Purple Fuzzy run it if you mods are too busy!

Well, that was temporarily fun, but ultimately short-lived. Ah well...

I think it is too soon to say it was ultimately short-lived. I'm maintaining some hopeful faith that these will continue when paul23 finds the time.

Heck I'd run the damn things if I had to. Some great concepts and techniques came out of the last one.

See?
Many users are willing to take over these GMC events, but you busy mods insist on handling the entire workload. And you end up not being able to do it all. Why not let these volunteers help you out?

How about this. In the time it takes for Paul23 to judge etc, everyone who wants to make a cool inventory system. Sort of an unofficial challenge with no prizes or anything.

The challenge could have easily been set up by a normal user. The fact that paul23 was a mod was just "co-incidence" really.

I'm tempted to take you up on the challenge, but I likely won't have any time to do so in the upcoming weeks.

No time limit. Make it whenever you want. Just when Paul comes back, there'll likely be a new official challenge. This is just to waste time until then.

I built one last week due to the novice forum being filled with inventory questions. Of course, by the time I got it all built, everybody had been help already so I didn't release it.
Here's the resources if anyone wants to look at it. Just import it to an empty project and there will be an example already put together for you.
If anyone uses it, credit is greatly appreciated, but not necessary.

I just downloaded&had a play around in xot's engine.

I know the wait must be frustrating for some, but if these competitions produces examples like these, then I'd say it's very hard to brand them a failure. Good stuff.
