Game Information
With a game full of randomly generated content, even in it's alpha stage, 8BitWorld has potentially several hours of gameplay.
When you create a new game, after designing your personalized character, class, and world, you are put in the world surrounded by hostility.
Most mobs (monsters) are passive, even the hostile ones until they get angry. The best thing to do to stay alive is quickly gather wood
and explore some caves in search of treasure and equipment. Beware, this game is hard! Save often!

There are a lot of different items in the game so anything you find, try and making something with it!
Stay tuned for a wiki containing all items, mobs, crafting recipes, and more!

Controls
WASD - movement
esc - pause menu
tab - player menu
space - action button (enter caves, use ladders, open chests, recover placed items)
mouse - aim attacks
left mouse button - use selected left hand item
right mouse button - use selected right hand item
mousewheel - scroll through hotbars when mouse is on corresponding side of the screen

Although I love the graphics, that isn't 8-Bit. That's at least 16-Bit. Might want to change the name

yes I'm sorry. none of us are any bit of a writer so we're slowly trying to figure out a good name. any suggestions other than 16bitworld?
and I do know that some of the biome's graphics aren't like the rest of the world.
I can tell you there are 4 different biome types (normal, grassy, desert, and decay). normal and decay are done. grassy is tough to do but I'll work on it soon.

I suppose I can also tell you that this game includes an updater when it starts. if an update is available, you'll see it.
for the first update I can promise that all biome types will have completed graphics.
potions will be in.
and skills will most likely be full functional apart from their abilities, which is 100% secret right now anyway.

It remains mystery to me, how does one place torches\use items and climb ladders. Space and clicks didn't do that.
So far each attempt to play this game ended on being felled' by something that looks like a bear but is said to be a gremlin.

@YAL: Sorry about that we'll get that fixed ASAP.
To drop torches, you equip a torch onto the hotbar (by dragging it there) and scroll it until it is one of the bottom-most boxes. That's your currently selected item, after that just click on a spot on the map and if it's free the torch will place. You can pick them back up by pressing space on top of them. The mechanic works the same way for flags.
@Tetiro: Yep I complained about this several times don't you worry. Once we come up with a fitting name though, you won't have to worry about it anymore.

Sorry about the confusing controls, we'll try to make them more understandable and intuitive in future releases.

I can't show you a map because every map is randomly generated. when you go into caves, you can only use the ladder that goes out of the cave, the other goes down but at the moment isn't set up to do so. you use ladders by pressing spacebar while standing on it.

as brian said, you place the item in a hotbar slot. you can use mousewheel to scroll through the hotbars.
if your mouse is on the left side of the screen, it'll scroll through the left hotbar. if your mouse is on the right side, it'll scroll through the right hotbar.
if a torch is currently selected (bottom position in a hotbar) it will produce light in caves. click the correct mouse button to place it where available.

as I stated in the first post, this game is hard. unless you have a weapon and some food, it is quite easy to die. do save often!
we will set up an autosave option soon that saves when you enter/exit a cave.

brod: Oh, that makes it clearer. Could probably make some darkness on bottom of ladders that go to lower dungeon layers.

Bugs

• Arrows can kick enemies into walls. Literally. Enemies have trouble getting out of walls and I have trouble taking loot from them.
• Minerals generate in walls sometimes
• You can place torches on overworld map, but will get an error when trying to retrieve them
• Either caves change structure between visits, or torch positions are saved incorrectly - some torches appear inside of walls on subsequent visits in caves.

Suggestions

• Make collected items try to append to 'hotbar' items by default. This mainly applies to torches.
• Add some basic readme with interaction explained.
• Add some combinable wooden obstacle, if did not already.
• Add some way to discover item combinations (NPC's?).
• Make creatures not spawn in well-lit areas.
• Add a even simpler 'loot all' hotkey, like shift+space in loot screen.

Questions

• How does one mine ores, given (found in my case) a pick-axe?
• How does one interact with houses, if possible?
• Magic is not yet implemented in this game?

Excellent Game. I have found Four errors though. Firstly, upon making a new game, my character seems to start with the same stats as the character last played. Secondly, On Large Maps, there is no tiles, at all.(These first two may just be me and probably are as I imagine others will have noticed and inform you). Also, my campfires and tents don't get put down (well the campfires make light but I don't see an actual fire). Also, what exactly occurred in the update to 1.2?

We've pushed an update out fixing a few minor bugs, we're still in the progress of getting rid of them all but I figure the less there are the better the experience, so make sure to click "UPDATE TO LATEST" in your updaters when you start the game!

as for the 1.2 update, here's a quick change log:
- Stat loading upon new game fixed
- Menu changes
- Death in water bug fixed
- Sounds changed
- Torch placement changed
- Enemy spawning code changed
(hostiles only spawn in darkness (torches stop hostile mobs from spawning), passives only spawn during the day)

the campfire doesn't actually have a fire effect, just the icon as you place it. I'm not sure if placing tents is even added yet because there's no way to enter a tent.
It may eventually be taken out as we're adding a completely different idea for houses and a tent would need to be totally redesigned.

I'm not sure about the tile program you're having. this only happens on large rooms? it could be your video card does not support large surfaces.
the whole world is rendered and then saved to a surface for fast usage. I'm sorry but you may have to stick with medium worlds instead.

you only listed 3 errors, what was the fourth? was it fixed in the change log?

no, it's almost nothing like minecraft. if you would please give it a shot, you'll see for yourself. it's more of a roguelike rpg.

Unfortunately, I found this game a bit slow in gameplay. Not my type.
