How do I convert a .gmk (gm8) or .gm8 file to a .gmk (gm7) file? GMLateral doesn't work for me.

Are you talking about LateralGM?

Currently, LateralGM supports GMD and GMK for Game Maker 7 files. You may visit the LateralGM site if you want to learn more about this. You might need a copy of Game Maker 7 to rewrite some GM8 files.

Have you tried an earlier version of LateralGM? The newer version is a little confusing. If it's just GM8 and not GM8.1, try lgm16b3.jar. The earlier versions (lgm16b3 and earlier) however convert the file to gm6, to which GM7 is backwards compatible with. And, please note that the sprites when converting GM8 to GM7 and earlier look a little different because of GM8's "fancy" (bull crap in my opinion) sprite editor.
