I can easily create a program which will not be picked up by any virus checker, spyware program etc.. it will be a gm game and il post it on the forums for all to try.

innocent enough.

But in the background i could execute a simple quick script or function that scans specific directories for user related files and info and upload that info to my server say using 39.dll and no one would be any wiser.

Whats to stop me doing this?

Whats there to protect us from this sort of thing?

I could easily create a fork bomb in GM that only runs after you restart the computer once you've run the game the first time. But I won't. Basically, the rule of thumb is "don't be a dick". Pardon my French. Actually, I don't know how to say that in French. But pardon my language.

As states above, its just common decency and maturity. Only little kids create viruses like that.

Zone Alarm.
Windows Firewall advanced settings.

If you have the expectation that others are responsible for protecting you, please leave the Internet at the nearest exit.

I could easily stab you in the back with a dagger while you are checking out the items in my grocery store, then steal your smartphone, your watch and your wallet, drag you to my car, lift you into the trunk, and quietly drive off in the dead of the night to a pier where I can toss your corpse into the sea.

Your family would not be any wiser.

What stops me doing this?

What stops me doing this?

Because my family hasn't paid you enough?

No, what stops me from doing this is that I don't have a grocery shop.

The firewall will say the program is trying to connect to a remote server... will you allow this? I click on "No"... problem solved.

I would do this but it's way too much effort. Now excuse I'm going back to programming my RPG

Honestly, the my rule of thumb is "Don't be a Donkey" (Look up the other name for Donkey)

Yes yes yes, internet is dangerous and more so because of stupid people doing stupid things... It's like sex, use protection or take the consequences.

I worry more about the smart ones.

It's like sex, use protection or take the consequences.

True, but some consequences are good. My parents decided to "take a chance" without protection... and here I am.

sigh.... That was the point of my joke. You know... my name being chance? Like... "here I am".

Oh well, at least one member needed the joke explained (looking at you, King Tetiro).
