(in depth top 5 and honourable mentions)

1. False - Absolutely loved the mechanic, thought the game was a bit too difficult and confusing too fast, but very nicely made.
2. Nothing Will Ever Hurt You - Really enjoyed the story and the snap-ending. I was actually a little stunned for a bit. Well done.
3. An Inconvenient Facade - Well put together and quite polished. Nothing I haven't seen before, but it was enjoyable.
4. Fake Date - A ton of character, I really enjoyed the unique art/story. Definitely different from the other entries.
5. Subterranea - I had fun playing it, which automatically guaranteed it a top 10. It looked and played very well.

Well done to everyone! There were a handful of games that didn't hit my top five but I was thoroughly impressed by, some of those being:

-Fix It

Rather than little reviews of every game I liked, disliked, or didn't get around to playing, I am going to instead make little reviews for four games. Magic, I know.

Some people have rated games based on a variety of different things. For my reviews I have one statistic, "was it fun? ? ?".

I played absolutely every game in the list, well done everyone! Below are a few select reviews.

~ Reviews ~
  • Breaking The Facade by Ziggler1 : Wow, these were some really intelligent puzzles! The use of the boxes to fall through the floors was really ingenious.
  • Citified by Venomous : This is absolutely amazing work for only 72 hours! I love these kinds of strategy games (less starcraft more swords & soldiers) and you absolutely nailed it.
  • Falling For Milk by 11clock : I'm not really a platforming fan, but for some reason I had a blast playing this game. The concept of avoiding fall damage is actually really smart. Kudos for coming up with a unique mechanic.
  • RedHood Revelation by _250500 : Really took me back to Dragon's Lair and those type of games. It only got more hilarious as the game continued! Well done
  • Fake Guide by The_Puzzle : Oh wow, I was cracking up laughing the entire time.. hilarious voice work and the jokes were genuinely funny.
  • Dawn Of Nightmares by mads2194 : Granted I scare easily, but this game was TENSE. The door part made me jump a little in my seat! You seemed to have texture problems though - my guess is their dimensions weren't a power of 2 (required for mipmapping). Still fun to play though.
  • Water, Water, Water by orange08 : The falling ending was hilarious and your use of the theme was legit. Great job on this one.
  • Don't Judge A Building By It's Facade by Irfanfox : This was really fun, I enjoy these Super Crate Box kind of games. Also.. dat ending lol

1. An Inconvenient Facade by Retarded Lemon
This game not only used the theme really well, but the gameplay itself was very nice. I was able to play the game to the end, even all of the inverted levels. Even though I suck at memorization, the memorizing in this game wasn't very difficult. A clever and fun game that deserves the trophy.

2. Boximus by Harrk
I'm a sucker for metroidvanias. This game had great gameplay, a jetpack that is fun to use, and some good platforming. My only complaint about this game is that the character moves too slowly. There are multiple endings, correct? I'll play through the game again to see.

3. Mystery Men by RedOctober
No music and the game itself isn't well polished, but the gameplay is good and kept me entertained for a while. Some of the comments that the people say are hilarious, and it's fun trying to figure out who's Mafia. I also love how every GMC member who's competing in the jam is in this game.

Best Use Of Theme: Feet of Clay by Blake
The game itself being a facade? GENIUS!

Best Presentation: Disillusion by True Valhalla
It's obvious that the creator of this game really did care for the graphics. Looks very nice, but too bad the gameplay itself wasn't very entertaining for me.

Best Devblog: RedOctober
The reason why I decided to try out Mystery Men was because of how well placed together the devblog is, and the game itself sounds very interesting.

I gotta say, I'm kinda disappointed in the results of the jam. Not as many good games as I would have suspected from 63 entries. Oh well, there were still a few gems in the bunch.

My votes:

1. False - Really liked the concept (kinda Super Mario Galaxy's "Space Junk" level made into a full game) and the graphics fit it quite well.
2. An Inconvenient Facade - Pretty enjoyable and it looked nice, although it did get a bit repetitive (as far as I played it).
3. Boximus - It looks nice, music's good, and it plays alright overall. Had one stuck-in-a-wall glitch, though, and the timing in the controls for the jetpack is quite aggravating...
4. Redhood Revelation - It entertained me.

MY VOTES
1-Disillusion by True_Valhalla
I felt TV showed the most skill in the competition, making a fun game in a couple days. The graphics weren't spectacular, but I actually felt they added to the gameplay. The game was fun and although the theme integration wasn't that good, it still stayed on track. The spider scared me for a second XD.

2-Duality by Thesnidr
This game simply impressed me as it is a decent 3d game made in little time. I think it shows the creators skill level with Game Maker at his best as he made great physics and a fun game. Just like above, I am impressed at the results with so little time to actually work. The graphics in the game were a bit lacking tho and really didn't fit together perfectly. good Job tho!

3-An Inconvenient Facade
I thought this game was simply a great example of the theme. I enjoyed the puzzles as they were challenging, but not so difficult as to force me to give up and quit. This game deserves a vote!

(1st) Duality
==========
One of the few games that took my attention right away.
The game ran really smoothly and I enjoyed the puzzles, even if I did suck at them.
I really loved the graphics too and there was so much detail put into every level, really good job on this one.
Note: I didn't even know you could pick things up until I accidentally picked up a barrel. :P

(2nd) Mario Norris Kart
==========
It could use with a bit more action like good ol' Mario Kart with the boxes and things.
However, I loved this for what it was and I would really love to see a new version of this game post-jam!
A good effort I must say.

(3rd) Water, Water, Water
==========
The first game I actually played even before the Jam finished and I loved it then, and still do.
I kept playing it until I had uncovered every little ending. I'm a right little sap for a story.
Am I weird because I keep walking left/right over and over again because I love the sound of the footsteps and the sand kicking up?

(4th) Disillusion
==========
I felt I needed to vote for this game as the graphics and tone were just amazing.
The game was too short for my liking though and I felt the combat could be paced faster. After all I pretty much ignored most of the enemies because of the slow combat.
The ending was a little confusing at first, like "Do I jump?", but it was certainly amusing.

An' yeah... that boss spider thing scared the crap out of me. I didn't bothered trying to fight it - I just ran. xD

My votes:

1 - Katie's Flight To The Netherlands (by Zeddi)
The main thing that makes this game shine is the unique visual appeal. The cut-out style is pure genius. The fact that it is also highly playable compared to many other, very difficult entries in the Jam also makes it one of few games that didn't make me rage quit. Sometimes, the "sticks" holding characters would get a bit in the way, but actually a lot less often than you would think.

2 - Subterrania (by Violen)
The game is quite polished... apart from that one underwater area where there is one tile missing... at first I thought that was a hole leading to an under-underwater area. Also, after like seven boring tutorial levels the game instantly difficulty spikes up to a very frustrating danmaku-on-conveyor-belts Lv 9 which made me rage-quit. The game needs more balancing, and it would be nice with a few gameplay levels BETWEEN the tutorial levels, so that you could try out each mechanic a bit instead of having to learn all of them at the same time.

My votes go to:

  • An Inconvenient Facade (by RetardedLemon) FIRST PLACE

Loved this game. I enjoy platform puzzlers. This one seemed well made, and was a great use of theme. The graphics were simple and clean, and the challenges were balanced. They started out easy and got harder at the right rate. I couldn't finish it, but I feel this was the best game of the Jam. So it gets my first-place vote.

  • Duality (by Thesnidr) SECOND PLACE

I enjoyed the look of this game, even though the gameplay wasn't as interesting to me. But the 3D effort paid off -- and I appreciate 3D. This game also has lots of potential for expansion. So it gets my second-place vote.

Best Use of Theme: An Inconvenient Facade (by RetardedLemon)

The design of the game made good use of the theme. The interpretation was straightforward -- nothing fancy, but it worked well... and didn't leave me scratching my head trying to figure out where the "facade" was.

I played every game, and lots of them looked very good. Unfortunately in many cases, I couldn't figure out what to do... or I couldn't get past the first obstacle. Often, this was my fault. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be fair to rate games I was unable to play. Hence, the short list.

I tried to write reviews for the third jam, but I've come to realize writing isn't one of my strengths - so I'll make this short.

In the following order, my votes go to
Breaking the facade
For really original gameplay and puzzles to my liking.
Citified
For being an addictive and fun startegy game with simple yet pleasing graphics
An inconvenient facade
For excellent use of the theme as well as very interesting levels.
Fix it
For the characteristic crazy gameplay style of a ThatSnail game. It's a simple game, yet he makes so much out of it.
Disillusion
For the amazing attention to detail.
Nothing will ever hurt you
For the cute yet creepy storyline.
Dawn of nightmares
For a really scary athmosphere and outstanding sound effects.

There. Now bring on the next jam!

My votes:

1. Duality - TheSnidr & Zekke
This one probably impressed me the most. The gravity changing was awesome. This must have taken some skill to code.

2. Suberannia - Viloen
This game felt polished. I especially liked the graphics.

3. Fix It - ThatSnail
I really liked the way the platform switched around in this one. Great idea.

4. Shadow Runner - Firebal16 & Zesterer
I played this one quite a bit. Online highscores was a good idea.

Yikes... when I read back over these comments of mine they sound so painful, lol... please take alla this with a grain of salt... & know that whatever I say about your game, you're better than me cos at least you entered & managed to finish on time.
So much respect in advane to all entrants! :medieval:
Now for the pain...

Agency - Metal slug sprites - no sound - boring platform shooter gameplay
An inconvenient facade - kinda interesting platforming swapping out bad stuff for unknown stuff... nice sound/music.
Bair - Bonus points for trying a new control scheme... I lioke the idea of being a hot air balloon but didn't quite work well.
Bak-lush - I like the idea of this one trying to hide & devour the townsfolk, but playabilty wasn't so great.
BallX - aply named, lol (^o^')... very simple jumping game wth overly exciting music but not much too it. Weak art.
Bots - um... is this a game? Not clear what to do... or else just very boring text adventure.
Boximus - ok "box" platformer. No enemies? Kinda boring....
Break the facade - Black white thing. I've seen this idea used somewhere before, I like this idea tho. Level design could be better.
Bubble Jam -this one of them "art/meaningful" games? (or possibly just very broken) couldn't get off selection screen without
hitting exit.
Cellz - nice music. Ok art. Simple ok gameplay...
Citified - impressive engine in sucha short timeframe. Interesting visuals. Nice little "poly blocks" explosions. Seemed ok but boring. Boring music didn't helpt the mood.
City Mania - hmm. Like that swingy game on iPhone or something I've seen. No proper swing/wobble physics tho kinda makes it really weak. Maybe too ambitious for teh timeframe.
ClownFishCoffee - bad graphics. No sound. Weak gameplay. I liked seieng the donut run offscreen tho lol.
wits4 - um. Face thing. Weird stuff. Was that a game? (Sadly most memorable so far, lol!)
Dawn Of Nightmares - 1st person 3D thing. I quite enjoyed this. Nice atmosphere achieved with the sounds. (^-^)b Makes me wanna make that 3D 1st person thing in a hotel I;ve been meaning to make for years...
(best so far).

Defend! - nah. Not clear what to do (or there is noting to do...)
Disillusion - I liked it. Very cool graphics style. Very moody music. Very sexy gradient & particle use. Really Wish there were sound effects. (new best game so far). (^-^)b
Don't Judge - um. Not clear what to do. Kinda interesting. Looks like a bit of effort put into visuals. No music. Bad sound.
Duality - one of the ones I thought would be cool... but didn't like. First playthrough didn't know what to do. 2nd I picked up the block & moved onto the path & "won the game" *scratches head* (glitch?). Impressive engine in the timeframe. Kinda interesting music. (sorry TheSnidr!)
Dungeon Deciever - haha. Like those old "spy in the castle" final fantasy or whatever they weres. Not too exciting.
Eulophoria - huh? Green ground. Bunny. Key. DIdn't know what to do. Kinda nice presentation.
Eeveelution - Simple tower defence with Pokemon. Not very original or exciting.
Facade - Political facade eh? Interetsing idea. Crap execution. Bad art. Bad sounds.
Face-Ace - meh. Bad art. Bad music. All I can do is walk across the screen?!
Fakedate - hmmm. Kinda interesting. Looks like effort put into it. Lotsa different minigames mashed up.
Fake Guide - bad collision platformer with bad graphics & no music... with voice overlay. Having a voice overlay made this different form most GM games... so +1 for that.
Falling for Milk - hey I kinda liked this. Ok music. Simple but effective graphics. Simple but kinda ok gameplay (falling down carefully). Yeah I quite liked the simplicity & execution of this little idea (^_^)
False - Kinda interesting block auto moving platformer puzzle thing. Had music. Bit too awkward/fiddly to figure out the levels imo.
Faykade - meh. Platformy shooter against cowboys & zombies & bats or something. Kinda weak art & bad controls.
Feet of Clay - hahaha!!! First one to make me laugh (^O^)b (no actual game but nice intro stuff... but yeah, kinda crap relaly lol).
Fix It - I liked the visual style of this. And color use. And the idea of "flipping" the blocks like that. Nice little mechanic there. (^-^)b The levels coulda been better designed tho.
Fountainface - I liked the black & white "words/sentences" levels. "Ok" platformer.Couldn't get to the end tho...
Gaming 404 - huh. another apprpriate tile here, lol. Bad gamepaly platforer. Bad agraphics. Weird voice intro.
Halluncinogen - Oh NAL. I am disappoint. (But +1 cookie for entering at all, unlike other wastrels who shall remain nameless.
ILoveMyWife - lol at the little story here. Based on the true story (of every married man, lol). Had music. Was "ok" gameplay.
Icoat - huh? Whiteness... in jail... break through bars... not sure what to do/where to go. I just ran off to the right continuously, lol. Kinda nice little setting.
Julius - Hmmm. Ya know, there mgiht be a good game here, *but* I don't have the patience to play through. I think these kinda games aren'yt so suitable for Jams (Jam games should eb short & sweet methinx). Nice attempt tho (^-^)b
Katies Flight - Lol. Nice cutout artstyle. Demented voice sound effects. Kinda crap gameplay.
Mario Norris Kart - Hmmm. Looks like effort put inon characters/art. But this is just TheSnidrs mode7/mariokart engine reskinned (I've fiddled with ti myself). So I guess a few points for effort & entering but... not in theme & nothing new... meh. *shrugs* I liked the retro music tho. (^-^)b
Masked - um. I guess you're a drug dealing smily face here... bad art. bad gameplay. Kinda crap tbh, lol.
Masks of Dukhovu - Couldn't figure out how to play. Nice graphics, presentation, music & sound effects tho (^-^)b
Modern Hero - Hmmm. Coulda been good, but really bad controls/game mechanics let it down. Also bad art & repetitive music.
MoltenLead - No sound. Bad graphics. Boring space shooter gameplay.
Money Running Out - another one I couldn't' figure out what to do or press otehr than enter & esc...
Moonlight Sonata - kinda interesting. Nice music. Ok art (esp the sparkly ball). I like the kinda new control method, but it didn't work very well. Maybe too slow paced I think.
Mystery Men - select GMC members to kill. Ok I liked that part, lol. But oh dear, it's pretty crap isn't it? Sorry.
Nothing Will Ever Hurt You - I liked it. Nice visual shadow effect going on (^-^) Nice atmospheric music. Nice little story/idea.
Memorable (^_^)b

Polyworld - meh. Bad graphics & gameplay.
Redhood - huh? Just kept getting shot & repeating it, lol. Looks like a bit of effort put in tho. Kinda "ok" I guess.
RGB - Hmmm. Simple space invadery shooter thing. Kinda boring.
SaveUs - Hmmm. Kinda interesting visual style/top down 3d look. Ok music. Not sure exactly what to do... nice effort tho!
Seeds and Weapons - Nice retro pixel look. Kinda reminds me of that Neon looking exploring game that was cool a few years back (ah yes, "The Power". This one's a bit too simple/boring tho. Good attempt all the same.
ShadowRunner - ah one of these auto running & ya jump games... hmmm it's *ok* I guess. Could do with music. Decent looking simple graphics.
Shap3Shift3tr - Hmmm. No idea how to play, lol.
Shhot the pigeon -does what it says on the box. Just. Funny thing is with decent art, anims, sfx & music this could actually be entertaining...
SpyBot - Ooh. Kinda nice-ish. Alright music. I like the siplicity & execution of this. Feels good & solid. (^-^)b Screen needs to be *much* bigger!
Squirrel Launch - kinda cute art & sounds. Looks like a bit of effort put in. "Ok" game I suppose.
Subterannia - Nice!* Sexy retro line effect & artwork & anims & sound. Nice solid retro gameplay goodness. Nice work! (^-^)b
Twisted Mission. Meh. Boringish top down thing. Bad art & gameplay.
Wanted - Hmmm. Ok presentation & sounds. Not so great gameplay.
Water Water Water - Haha. I liked it! (^-^) Nice clean simpe art. Ok music. Good "story".
What You See - Hmmm. Simple platformer with hidden stuff. Kinda half an attempt I think. *Coulda* been good.
You Monster - Didn't like this one (unlike many it seems)... but I'm not a big fan of directly top down stuff tbh. Was "ok", might need to play it more to see what the fuss is about.

*So* in the end the votes I got in on time are 99% as I'd like... *but* I feel guilty about Water Water Water...
I woulda liked to have voted for that one (sorry! damn my laziness!) :turned:

My intended final vote order is:

VOTE 1: Nothing Will Ever Hurt You
VOTE 2: Dawn Of Nightmares
VOTE 3: Disillusion
VOTE 4: Fix It
VOTE 5: Subterannia
VOTE 6: Water Water Water
VOTE 7: Falling For Milk
VOTE 8: SpyBot
VOTE 9: Feet Of Clay
VOTE 10: Duality

So yeah... more or less what I managed to not so stealthily squash in on time... just that Water Water Water shoulda been in there at 6 (don't think it'd make much of a difference to the voting tho).
