Posted Image I don't think your list is very realistic... it suggested:

Yankee NATO's vamped saline Gaspar vagina rabies.

...

Actually - that means you could do the female anatomy. :P

Each of those is possible. Maybe not likely, but still possible. The list wasn't hand-picked, it was filtered from a list of basically every English word (or at least a huge database of them) based on what we know about the theme: that it fits the form *A****. That's all we know for sure now.

Oh god. I'm getting scared already. ;) The time ticks closer...

I need ideas. Quick. Very quick. :S

This whole gmc rush-to-slap-together-whatever-you-can-in-48-hours is really, really crazy, isn't it? Me an Fireball 16s last attempt was a dismal failure. Remind me never to use 3D again in another jam...

Well - good luck to everyone and may the best programmer win! :D

Yaaayy this is exciting! I might actually have a little bit of time this weekend to quickly make something. Sadly, it's not as much time as I had for the Summer Jam, but hey, I'll take what I can get. :D
I'd also like to offer the same prize I did last time: Banners for the top 5 games!

Rapist and vagina work together...

Before you scream, I'd like to refer you to George Carlin: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=m2a5-RrwWZ8

Those are improbable, yes, but not impossible :P .

Hey guys. Here's some tips to maximise turnout (based on other jams and rapid development I do for myself, for prototyping gamei deas):

-Make sure everything's working OK. This shouldn't be an issue, but sometimes GM has those weird hiccups with things. Make a test program/game and make sure it's not doing anything out of the ordinary.

-Buy, or beg your mom to buy, some food. Drinks and snacks keep your mind focusing while you work. If you don't care about winning, make sure to drink lots and lots of alcoholic drinks. That will be entertaining.

-As the Jam starts, do these four things: eat, drink, be well rested, and do some house cleaning. Anything that interrupts your focus is bad bad bad. In my experience, working for an hour straight, I get more work done than in four hours, interrupted about every half hour. It's all about the flow, so make sure you minimise these. Clear off your desk or workspace to make space for food and paper.

-Sleep. Unless the Jam starts at a normal hour for you, you should really be sleeping. If I stay up all night, I am tired, and produce sloppy, poor, hard to work with code and assets. Don't do this. Make a good game. Make a great game. You should aim to sleep at least 16 of these 72 hours.

-Don't make a massive game. This should be a no brainer. If you make a huge game, it will take your 72 hours just to get started. Don't make a game that requires a lot of level design, either. The game stops being fun after four levels, because it's over. That's no fun.

-Write code you can read. It's easy to get caught up by doing things fast, but if you do it sloppy, bug-fixing will be painful.

-Test.

-Design, Implement, Prettify. First design the game, make sure it works. If you do this all now, it's less you have to do later. Implement it with placeholders so you actually have an entry if it takes longer than planned, or if art/music doesn't exactly work out.

-Don't forget the GMC! Update your devlog. This is now a part of deciding some winners (I think?), or at least you get prestige for it, so do it.

-Take some breaks. It will make you feel better if you have some blood flow to the brain.

-Back that truck up. By this is mean make a backup. One time, I screwed myself over really bad, because I permanently deleted a directory. Thankfully I had just taken a backup. It's important, especially if you're tired and really trying to finish quickly.

-Take a shower. Some of my best ideas come in the shower. Also less stank = higher rank.

-Get the player in the game as soon as possible. This is just courteous.

Again, this is what works for me. Use it at your own discretion.

I have to say, the first possible theme that jumps to my mind would fit in perfectly with a scrapped AI engine I had lying around. But then again, none of my theme guesses has been correct (Guess 1 "Time", real theme 1 "Pancakes", Guess 2 "Fish", real theme 2 "Life", guess 4 <don't remember>, real theme 4 "Laws"). I'm getting really excited and nervous already. Let's just hope I get the engine actually function in time... *-__-

In light of Theophilus' helpful rundown of tips and such, I thought I would offer my own alternative. Hopefully it should produce such stunning results as my last entry to the Jam. :)

1. Before the Jam starts. Don't try to complete other things that need to be done. Focus wholly on the upcoming game, such that major deadlines and expectations in the rest of you life fall precisely in the middle of the 72 hours. The adrenaline rush from all your panicing and repeated failures will spur you on to create a masterpiece (ala Van Gogh).

2. Try to think enormous. The Jam is your chance to finally show everyone that you are the greatest game maker ever. Spend copious amounts of time designing and re-designing. An idea that you always thought was too ambitious to possibly create? Now is the optimum time; other competitors will be astounded by your creative vision, and probably drop out before the competition starts.

3. Write code you can't read. There's no time to be all fancy and coherent with your code. A non-sensical style that only you can (vaguely) understand shows exceptional craftsmanship. Bug-fixing is an admission of your own failures, and you won't ever make those, so it's not as if you need to ever read this code again.

4. Caffeine. What takes longer than boiling a kettle? Sleep. Your bed will be a nice cup of Nescafe or a mug of Earl Grey. Once your hands start to shake from the buzz, that should help with typing...

7. Forget the GMC. Other people's creations will remind you of your game's shortcomings. Ignoring a devlog will heighten the tension, who doesn't like secrecy? Particularly try to pay attention to how-to lists that may on the surface quite helpful, but are actually very silly...

EDIT: as in my University English essays, I should make a habit of finishing sentences... the first time...
