I'm conducting a survey on the marketability of video games

The survey consists of just 30 questions.

The purpose of the survey is to find out what is potentially marketable to each demographic in the game Development field

If you are viewing this post, you most likely develop games, or have a strong taste in wanting to develop games.
I will encourage you to take this survey and share the link with your developer buddies.
I hope this will help us find the proper niche within each of our own gaming studios.

Last year I conducted a previous survey here:

This is a completely different survey than the one above.
After learning a little more about survey taking and listening
to all's feedback I have finally released this survey.
I hope it is a bit of an upgrade from last year's survey.

Please be as honest as possible, so the results can reflect the truth.

I hope by March 15 or after we get over 500 results.
I hope I can use proper statistical analysis while compiling the survey's results.

Survey Notes

Okay some of you will be happy to know I have been editing the survey.

Question #6 now allows you to select "NONE OF THE ABOVE"'

For Question #11, a follow up Question is now asked below it which reads:
"12. As a follow up to Question #11. Please select all of the of the below in which you DO NOT play video games on."

With this new question addition, the questions are now renumbered.


But for the Question formerly known as 13(Please rank the way you control your favorite games"). A follow up question is now asked below it which reads:
"As a followup to Question #14, please check off any of the following you do not use when playing video games."

The question titled, "Which of the following fits your most common gaming environment?" now has a "None of the Above" choice


For the Question titled, "If you own a game console, are the majority of your games for it 1st-party and exclusive games for that console?
eg. If you have a Nintendo, are most of your games like Metroid, Mario Kart, etc. "
The "I do not own a console" option was added.

For the Question titled, "What is your MOST common screen resolution when playing games?" the option "Other resolution" was added.

For the Question titled, "If you have a cell phone. Does it have a touch screen? " the option "I do not have a cell phone" was added.

The following Questions titled, "Name The Top FIVE(if any) Magazines where you get most of your game previews and reviews from." and "Name the TOP FIVE(if any )Websites where you get most of your game previews and reviews from" are no longer mandatory questions.

For the Question titled, "You are on one of your favorite websites reading about a game you are excited to
go buy and you notice something claiming that this game is terrible. What will you do?" the "None of the above" option was now added

For the Question titled, "Before I buy a game I must first" the "None of the above" option was added.

Also 2 new questions have been added


After going through this survey once more and with the feedback of this lovely community I believe this survey is now complete. I am going to actually restart this survey, so all of the results can be truly accurate with all of these revisions made. Do not fret, not too many results are posted(less than 25).

How can this survey possibly help anyone make better video games? Why does what time I play have to do with it.

The time a game is played was added to the survey to get the amount of time a gamer plays games to see if they are traditional hardcore gamers who game all the time. It is meant to measure how casual or "hardcore" a gamer is.

I found some of the questions awkward. On the other hand, some surprised me. Looking forward to your findings.

That was rather annoying.

Question 11: i don't own any form of cellphone nor a Facebook account so why they had to be included is beyond me.

Question 13: OK, are you f--king kidding me. I only play games with keyboard and mouse. I hate any other control method, yet guess what? I have to put all those things on, again.

Question 18: I use 1366x768. not on a TV. Now what do I press... (I chose the lowest screen res because I can :3)

Question 23/24: None of the above is oddly absent. What's more, on 24 despite writing in the "other" box I still had to click boxes to finish the survey.

also why is this only for 2d games? i dont see how its a marketing thing either. more like what games you like (AKA exactly the last one)

That 2D thing was added in by accident. Also, what do you mean it will be inaccurate regardless?

Also, its about seeing what the general gaming population wants and their feedback.

Can you elaborate more on your previous post means?

Yeah. I noticed that it was quite long as well. I was trying to gather lots of information at once.

You know, this survey does not return the result of an average gamer. Rather, someone who uses Game Maker and likes to take surveys.
