Memory

Designed for mobile phones. If you have a html5 compatable phone, please try, and let me know how it runs for you!

The simple, yet addictive game of memory. Improve your memory by matching the animals on cards.

A simple game, to start me off talking to html5 mobile game sponsors. =)

Aside from the issues I posted to you on Twitter about, the game runs well. I plan to make a game similar to this sometime too

Thanks for the reply(and tweets!). I think the issue is just with how I've set up the html/CSS, right? Google should show me how to set that up correctly.

Thanks for the response!

Edit: Quick game update, so it now uses the GM 'center game' option, at the suggestion of TV. Hopefully that fixes the issue with loading off-center!

Cool, thanks for the tip!

Updated yet again, with this
<body onload="setTimeout(function() { window.scrollTo(0, 1) }, 100);">

Which I'm told should fix the URL bar issue.

I guess you didn't spot the "NOTE: This is depreciated in iOS 5. Check out http://snippetspace.com/iwebkit/demo/ for iOS 5 support." part of the post, huh? :P

I did, but in my experience depreciated means it still works. :P A bit of googling tells me it actually doesn't. Rot.

Not sure what to do now. The only 'real' suggestions given is the <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /> tag, which GM already comes with, and only works if you add the game to the home screen.

What I plan to do with my next game is just encourage users to "add to homepage", or even make it a requirement as I've seen some games do. Not sure how to go about that yet, though. Otherwise, design for the smaller play region.

O.k. I've updated

Changes

*lowered the top text about 15 pixels
*raised the cards up (there is now considerable 'spare space' down the bottom for phone HUD's)
*added a new bonus scoring feature. Get multiple matches in a row, and increase your score exponentially! (not..literally exponentially. But, like, the score gets bigger.) Got the idea off a guy off Tig's.

What I plan to do with my next game is just encourage users to "add to homepage", or even make it a requirement as I've seen some games do. Not sure how to go about that yet, though. Otherwise, design for the smaller play region.

I think I'll do a page, or blurb, like this guy has:
http://www.spacemonsters.co.uk/html5-games/

And yeah, I've squished the design more into the middle. :P

that sounds like a really terrible idea. do you really think people want it on their homepage? if that was the case they would probably fix it themselves

I think you have no idea what context we are talking in. This is in regards to iOS homepage, not your browser homepage.

I'm on his side, and I know the context. Don't force them to add to their home screen, I'd hate that. Encourage, sure. Don't force.

The benefit of this is it gives you more screen space to work with, guaranteed.

The downside is that you lose 90% of your players before they even see the game.

Well I don't know about that...it didn't bother me at all. The games were played, then if I liked them they stayed, if not they were deleted. People are so used to having apps install on their homepage already, I think it's more like 90% would be fine with it.

Apparently these:

Although I don't have an iDevice to test.

Hey, how does one go about forcing the homepage save, TV? Any ideas?

If you do end up forcing it, you should set it up to track how many people actually do add it to the home screen. It would be good to see how many people are put off by it.

Myself, if the game wasn't made by someone I knew, and wasn't critically acclaimed, I'd be gone. I have no idea whether the game is worth the effort, so I'd stay on the safe side and not play.

I'm not certain, I haven't looked into it at all.
