The 3D temple exploration game!

What is Ancient?
Ancient is a new retro styled 3D game being developed by us here at Treesun Studios. Deep inside of the temple lies hidden treasures, but be wary, danger lurks around the corner!

Currently, there are only 4 playable levels, but the final version will have over 20!


How to play:
Use the W,A,S,D keys to move around.
Move your mouse to control the camera angle.
Press Z to interact with things.
Press SPACE to jump.
ESC to pause.
F4 to toggle fullscreen.
ALT + F4 to quit.

Make your way through the tombs and collect the DIAMOND that lies in each. Using these, you can venture deeper into the temple.

Extra information:
This game was based on the open source game Action Fist by Teknogames, so credit for the base sprites goes to him.
A 3D modeler has also joined our team recently, so expect many graphical changes to come!
MisfitChris is currently working on our soundtrack.

This is purely a tech demo, so please disregard any unfinished art you may find.

We'd also love to hear any feedback you may have; good or bad!

This game is seriously gorgeous!
I've honestly only seen this kind of lighting/shadowing done once before, and it was slow as hell! This one is surprisingly fast!
Graphics are great, sound is pretty good, and level design is solid.
Can't wait until it completely done and I especially can't wait to see what the new models look like!

Next gen for GM!?

It was alright, I guess, I found it annoying that half the place wasn't lit up, I didn't work out there were coal things in the other rooms until I'd almost won the game >_>

This looks nice, not less than.
I wouldn't call this exactly "next gen" (probably because I'm not member of same team...), but 2d light rendering applied to 3d elements* is something that wasn't done a lot of times before.
* Judging from fact that lighting on walls is linear for entire wall height, and seems to inherit texture positions on floor.
Two things that did not seem to do well were enemies going through doors as if nothing was there, and rather precise platforming requirement (some minor jump height increase would probably fix this -- at the current moment only ~50% of jumps over two blocks that I've made were successful).

This is a pretty well made game. How am still wondering how you did that type of lighting.

One thing I found was I was able to stand on the side of a spike block, but not much of a problem.
Also, the jumping was hard to get used to. It took accuracy to jump over the spikes.]
I felt that there should be some music in the background, not high paced, but creepy ambiance.

Other than that, it was great. 8/10, since it is still in development and some things were glitched.

Thanks for commenting guys, all of your suggestions have been put into consideration.

Just updated the game to 1.3, which fixes the mobs walking through doors bug, and adjusts the jump height slightly.

This... is... so... AWESOME!
I thoroughly enjoy'd this tech demo. I would keep playing if it let me. The graphics were great, controls nearly perfect(It's kind of hard to press z, perhaps e?), and the sounds fit well. There was no music, so that's kind of a downer. All in all, a great tech demo.

Yes, be sure to properly acknowledge everyone.

Clearly a lot of work went into this and it makes good use of SurfaceFix.dll. I quite like it but I think the lighting could be a bit more interesting. I didn't encounter any major problems, but I think the debug display code throws an error when you leave the initial room.

Umm, since the new update the FPS was really low like 12. Also the game takes forever to start up...

Yet another addition to the good games list! Most of us have come to realize how to utilize the capabilities of GameMaker.
