Hi.

I apologize ahead of time for this likely misplaced topic. This is my first post here so please be patient :)

I'm currently creating a project with some friends with GameMaker 8.0 Lite, which I've been using for some time, but did not choose to upgrade to the full version, or in turn to GameMaker 8.1. My question was whether or not we could still freely distribute the executable of the finished game to friends (free of charge) since it was created with the Lite edition of the GameMaker software, and an outdated one at that.

I've already checked the GameMaker EULA, the Terms and Conditions at yoyogames.com and the FAQs at yoyogames.com, and haven't yet found the answer to this question.

In short, do we get any rights to distribute the game or are we obligated to publish it through Yoyo Games? I read the rights included in the Copyright topic here, but did not see anything pertaining to the Lite version. I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to distributing.

Also, slightly off-topic: I read in the FAQs that the full version of GameMaker 8 is still available through softwrap.com. Can anyone give me additional information on this and a link to a place on the site where I can download the software.

GM games are able to be distributed and sold commercially regardless of whether it is the lite edition or not. You are in no way obligated to publish through YoYo Games. However, the Lite version has the "Made in Game Maker" banner shown at launch (and the GM8.1 Lite version has a watermark).

To purchase GM8.0 through softwrap, I would guess you would use the link within Game Maker. Softwrap doesn't appear to have a link on their site. I don't know why you wouldn't get GM8.1, though.

Okay, thank you! Also, to clarify, I did download the Lite edition of v8.1, I just don't use it because of the watermark. I found it to be too obstructive... IDK I'm just picky

If you're going to pay for the full version, GM8.1 doesn't have the watermark in the Standard version, only in the free Lite version.
