joust is a game where you fly an ostrich,
and hit the enemies, the higher lance wins..
===================================
instructions: use the Z key to flap, stay higher
than the enemies

use the arrow keys LEFT and RIGHT to change
directions (up and down are not used)
===================================
can you make it through all the levels?

super ptero lords, and bonus levels await

features
===================================
-extra's awarded for better gameplay
-extra man counter, for when you store up more
extras than shown
- 5 different enemies, red/gray/blue jousters,
pterodactyls, and pterolords (NEW)
-classic gameplay

Thanks for uploading it again.

Looks like it must have taken you quite a lot of time as it looks to be a very thorough reproduction of Joust.

Interesting to see that you didn't use scripts or code executes and everything seems to be based on a D'n'D style (using the provided dialog forms).

I'd been looking at a few other examples recently that seemed to use the dialogs very little and almost everything was action->execute script.

Good to see an example that actually uses the dialogs. Just what I was interested in seeing at this time. And to see such a complete game is so great as well.

Had trouble trying to build it in GM studio (I don't have 8.1). I think the studio import has not brought it in totally correct. Not sure what problem is exactly yet as it doesn't actually error on building just stops. Good job you provided the exe so I could get it running.

If you're looking for any criticism I did notice that sometimes when I'm not moving it will still be doing a walk animation or may go into the flight sprite. I think I might have seen a couple of collision problems with fast moving eggs. Minor things really.

Fantastic work. I'm going to study this some more, I think it's a GREAT example of a complete game!

Thanks,

Michael

Have you tested this on Windows 7? It's acting kinda wonky. The bird moonwalks a lot, sometimes it doesn't go the right direction. And other weird stuff.

Everything looks and sounds like the original, but there's something funky going on with the game play, at least on my machine (dual-core, win 7, 4 GB RAM)

I'm also glad you did it with the Game Maker icons, it far easier to keep track of things with visual imagery all laid out like that.

When I hit a platform at its side, my bird rider gets stuck on it, no way to get off.

Sometimes an enemy lags in a spot, unable to move.

Minor things.

Still, it is an interesting project, and something to learn from.

With GameMaker HTML5 it compiles fine in Windows mode. One of the few examples I've found that does.

They have GameMaker:Studio out today. Once they fix the website bugs that keep me from getting the update, I'll compile it in that, and post it somewhere. Since Studio is way faster than any other GameMaker, it should run very smooth.

I finally got GameMaker: Studio working, so I tried to compile this in it, but nothing but a long list of errors appear.

I guess a lot of work is done to make any Game Maker 8 files work in Studio.
