The world of indie games is much much larger than gmc.yoyogames
I have a question for those of you who post games beyond this forum: how do you make it in such a way that your game gets known and played?
It's not enough that the game is good and decent and fun to play. Let say it is. This by itself won't attract the attention of potential players. Therefore the game needs to be advertised. So basicly my question breaks into two ones:
1. In which media(beyond this forum) do you post your games?
2. For each media, how do you advertise your game? E.g. do you rely on walls of text or on loads of screenshots?
Thanks in advance.

I usually make a note about my game in Facebook and then tag everybody in it. Well, that's kind of silly advertising though.

Post to yoyogames, post to some forums, post to social networks.
Good games will find attention themselves though.

I post my (especially good) games on as many forums and game hosting websites as I can. I like to upload videos of my games, but due to slow internet, I won't do anything longer than 50 seconds. Posting screenshots with your game is a must if you want downloads, if your game has awful graphics, however, you are not likely to get many plays.
Putting images+links in your signature is also a good idea.

This. The world of indie games is much much larger than gmc.yoyogames
If the game is good, post in on the TIG forums. If it's really good, it will get noticed and featured on the indiegames blog and get thousand of views. The audience is very different from here though. What happens is the GM games that get noticed here usually don't get noticed in the indie games community, while the GM games that actually become classics for the rest of the world are barely known around here. Very different target market. In the same perspective, most games the gmc like to make have a better chance being popular inside the gmc.
Of course, this is just a general statement and I'm not pointing at developpers. When it comes to the Yoyogames player pool, looking at the 'Yoyo Legends' just makes me want to cry.
