SP202: Sometime next week. Next weekend at the latest. It's alright, I'm happy to make changes so don't feel bad about asking.

Can I ask something icymx? Are we allowed to use the music you create for commercial games? Do you require payment if the music is used for commercial games?

If I have provided feedback on a game of yours, it would be epic if you do the same!

King Tetiro: No, I do not. Sometime in the future I may require payment though, but not for any of the music I create(d) before that point.

At this stage, the only reason I'm running this thread is to gain experience. And fun, of course

Koni326: Will do.

wickedsunny: Not sure if you read the OP, I don't do sound effects. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Everyone: Closed to new requests now. Here is the priority list:

1. Edit of SP202's piece
2. Bobhoil (other topic)
3. Gruntpie224 / TheWareHouseGames (other forum)
4. Roadrager
5. A!ex
6. A!ex
7. Koni326

Woah. I hope to finish these in less than a fortnight so yeah. ¥_¥

EDIT: SP202: I saved your song as a midi because I don't see how I can change it. I thought that since you have played piano+violin before, you would be able to manage editing the piece in its midi format with a free program such as Anvil Studio. Then you could send me back the midi and I could turn it into an mp3 for you with the instruments I used before.

So, here it is: http://db.tt/9MvqaKEZ

Hi icymx, I decided not to spam your PM inbox again so I've decided to post here once again. I've sent you the MIDI file by email, and I would like some feedback on whether the changes sound right and whether they fit in. And would you be able to convert the file to a WAV?

Thanks,

A!ex: I'm really busy ATM with this huge assignment thingy... So there will be absolutely zero progress on the songs (which I haven't even started yet, by the way) until at least this time next week. Sooooory.

SP202: The changes are fine. I will convert it to wav when I get the chance, which will be sometime in the next 7-10 days hopefully.

EEEEEDIT: Roadrager: Uhm... squeeeeeezed in a little time to make yer song... goes for 1:22 not 2:00, hope ya don't mind. I am like soooo tired right now.

Hi everyone. I am a composer from Australia, and I am happy to compose one or more tracks for your game(s). Unless your game(s) is/are about ponies. Yuck.

About me

I am an 18-year-old who discovered composition not long ago, but since then I have devoted lots of spare time to this very rewarding hobby. Sadly, lately my spare time has had a bad habit of not existing.

I am constantly looking for ways to improve, and I believe that the best way to get good at something is to practice doing it as much as you can. So to get better, I am offering you music for your games, free of charge. All I ask for is that you credit me as "icymx".

I use FL Studio 7 to compose, and have been doing so since about October 2011. I have been playing piano for 5 years, and I am glad I discovered composition as it uncovers a whole new area of music that I hadn't touched before. I have found that since I began composing music, not only have I improved at composition, but my general musical skills have greatly improved as well. Although, I find that I am constantly "improving" the songs I'm supposed to be playing at concerts and whatnot xD

Conditions:

1. I will try and complete all requests within a short amount of time, however I may be rather busy.

2. You may request up to 3 songs per person per week. If you make more requests than this I will discard all but the first three. If you would like to request more than 3 songs at a time (for a whole project), send me a PM saying you would like to hire me and I will shut down this topic temporarily.

3. Credit must be given to icymx. It would also be appreciated if you PM me a link to your game when it is complete.

4. I will not make:

  • Music for fangames
  • Music for games containing any of the following:
    - Excessive violence
    - Sexual refereces/content
    - Coarse language (any words worse than "crap")
    - Anything else that is inappropriate
  • Sound effects
  • Remixes

5. If you request for music while I'm not available, I will discard the request. And eat it. Period.

Requests form:

You must fill in all details of the mandatory section, and as many as you like from the optional section.

Mandatory:

Mood: e.g. Slow, powerful
Length: e.g. 2 1/2 mins
Speed: either BPM's or slow/medium/fast
Looped: yes/no
Description of game style: e.g. Sinister dungeon RPG
Preferred format: mp3, wav, ogg, m4a, wma, mid

Optional:

Instruments: e.g. Violin, bass, synth
Drums: none/few/some/many
Bitrate: 32kbps to 320kbps, if not provided I will choose what I feel is appropriate
Screenshots/Demo/Video: A demo of your game or some screenshots to set me in the right direction. A gameplay video can also help.
Other info: e.g "I would like the intro to be electric guitar"

Entering information from the optional section will aid my composition and I will generally produce a more suitable piece.

All requests that do not use at least the mandatory section of the requests form will be moved to the bottom of my priority list and as a result, will take longer to be received.

Why choose me?

  • I can compose in practically any genre, from Orchestral to 8-bit to Blues - you name it. And if you would like a song from a genre I haven't composed in before, I can do that too. Just don't complain if I fail epicly.
  • I work for absolutely nothing. That's right - not a single song I make will cost you a cent.
  • I can do single requests, or entire games. If you wish to hire me, send me a PM.
  • I can give you the music in any format you like - midi, mp3, ogg, wav, whatever.
  • By requesting from me, you are not only receiving free music, but you are also helping me get even better as a composer. Just look at some of the early pieces in this topic, and then compare them to the more recent ones xD

Examples of my Work:

I used to add links to some examples here, but it got tedious updating them every few weeks.
Here is a link to the most recent page, scroll through it until you find some music :D

sp202: Maybe you should open up a composiion service xD
I was literally in the same position as you when I started composing 6 months ago. I needed some music for a game and thought, "Why don't I make it myself?"
So I PM'd Evano, and he told me to get FL Studio. The rest is history.

Anyway, enough about me. I'm glad you like the piece, and that it finally suits your needs after all this time :)

Yeah, the piece is finally done  , thanks for not minding my pickiness. I might need your services again some time soon, so be prepared for some hard work  . I am thinking of maybe composing a few songs but not as a service (too much work ), I just need to get a keyboard set up and stuff. Do you know of any free composition software like GarageBand where you can record clips by playing the keyboard, then arrange them (for Windows 7, of course)?

Well, I did realise that Anvil Studio could be used to compose music, but I'm more accustomed to GarageBand. To me, being able to record clips is easier, and if you know of any software that does the same thing for free, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me.

What do you mean by recording clips? As in, playing a song and recoding it onto a computer? Trust me, that doesn't work for video game music. If you're looking for an alternative to Anvil Studio, then investigate Linix Multimedia Studio, it's free, cross-platform, and magnificently fantabulous :P

Also, look at the link in my signature for a whole forum dedicated to video game composition ;)

Well, I'm not going to be using the program for video game music necessarily, more like for personal use. What I meant by record is where you press the record button, play something on the keyboard, and then GarageBand turns it into a sound clip.

@sp202 pretty much every program can do that. As long as you have a midi plug or whatever is required to connect your piano to your computer :)

@Osmium that game looks awesome B)
I will get started on your piece as soon as I get the chance. Also, does something like this sound good, just as a basic idea of what you would like it to sound like? Don't expect that standard though, the guy who made that is amazing.

EDIT: You requested in Nijg's topic. Are you going to wait until both songs have been made, and then choose the better of the two? If so, I can assure you that you don't even need to bother with me. I have a very high opinion of Nijg and his music retains a ridiculously high level of awesomeness which would be practically pointless for me to imitate. So, if that is the case, which I'm guessing it is, then I won't make the song.

@JackieKan if you have your own requests topic, why are you asking here? I will do your request anyway though ^.^

@Osmium I have got started on your piece, and I've made about 50 seconds of it.

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature,
nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure.
Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits
in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.

Wow.
Your stuff is really good, icymx.
:D

If you put a good EQ on your stuff, and mixed a bit of compression/or reverb, your stuff would sound really natural.
:D

But it's really good, nonetheless.
(Maybe I'm being skeptical because I'm used to hearing EQ's...)
:P

Keep up the grea tjob!

@TerraCrafter thanks! I suck at mixing though, but I'll get better :P
Also, by EQ do you mean changing the levels of Bass, Middle, Treble etc? If that's what you mean then there is either no easy way to do that in FL Studio or I'm missing something huge... ._.
Time for Google xD

Mixing is really easy when you get into it.
;)

Yes, that's what I meant.
As well as reverb, depth and other stuff.
What version of FL are you using?
If it's 9 or higher, how did you miss that...
O.o
