Russell and Mark were at Droidcon last week in Amsterdam. Mark was sitting on the program committee alongside other distinguished Dutch peers. Russell was giving a talk on YoYo Games and the forthcoming release of GameMaker Studio. Droidcon covers everything for the Android platform for mobile devices, which is being developed by the Open Handset Alliance led by Google. So far they’ve held conferences in Berlin, London and in Brussels. It was a diverse mix of game makers, advertising agencies and software types all very interested in our ability to hit multiple platforms with one code base.
GameMaker Studio is planned for release in Q1 of 2012 and we hope to bring some more news on this development during December. Meantime please sign up here so you don’t miss any news as and when it comes out - http://yoyogames.com/
We are so busy we need to welcome another addition to our expanding team at YoYo HQ! Introducing Gavin Smart whose role is as an Associate Producer, he’ll be tasked with updating different distribution channels, set up games for iOS, Android, Symbain, co-ordinating information and generally supporting production.
Gavin joins us from Rockstar North where he was working with the tools department, testing new features and updates for all of Rockstar’s in-house tools. Previous to this he was at Realtime Worlds where he was a Senior Tester, organising the daily test effort on APB: All Points Bulletin. As well as being an avid gamer Gavin likes to go Climbing, Snowboarding, Skateboarding and practice Shotokan Karate.
Gavin has expressed “I look forward to working with the team at YoYo and cannot wait to get stuck in helping to create some of the next big titles for Android and iOS devices”. Just what we like to hear!

And then Game Maker just inherited Rockstar North's coolness; GM just got 250x times cooler.

I don't think that really counts - as far as I know; Russell and Mike were two of the founders of DMA (that was later incorporated into Rockstar North, I think it made the first GTA independently though), assuming wikipedia is right.
Edit: Citation needed
Edit: slight misreading of wikipedia.

Anyway, it is exciting that the release of Studio is on the way.
I'm still deciding whether or not to buy HTML 5, I don't really know if I need it or not, but I want to make a decision before the Beta ends.

C'mon, I don't mind company's asking customers for money for great products, but overpricing is NOT OKAY.
There are CHEAPER alternatives to Game Maker Studio (less then $200 is the cheapest ones, and it has more exports than Game Maker. Google sometime).

Most are aware of the alternatives. It comes down to what you're used to using. I think if you have a project that is well underway though it might be worth it to some to not have to rewrite the whole thing. For myself I have messed around with GM since version 5.3 and pretty adept at gml now, but I am a programmer that hates programming. And the thought of learning another language, even a simple one, is mindnumbing:) The programming gods hate me very much.

It's called "pre-emptive bashing". You see, YoYo might overprice it. So just in case, slam drago gets his licks in now.Do you mind citing a YYGs source indicating it will be $500+ or are you just making up more crap?

Source code is an imported set of scripts used to make the game. Source code is created by a tool know as an engine. Which on his turn is created by a human. Under game making tools there is more then programming. Anyone who ever tried to make a game will understand that without the compiler, render software, modelling software you cannot make a game as the Rockstar North class. If you still dont understand the differnts between tools and source code dont spam this topic you can PM me and I will explain you.S.A. and GTA V were created from the tools, they are not the tools.

Did google but could not find the alternative of 200$. This GM studio is worth 2000$ it will sell like hot cake if it is priced at 1500$. If the price is as low as 500$ then the potential value will drop and people will show no interest in the final product. On the other hand business wise you should sell the product very expensive 5000$+ in the beginning and later on lower the price this will attract a lots of buyers. There are CHEAPER alternatives to Game Maker Studio (less then $200 is the cheapest ones, and it has more exports than Game Maker. you did not google well. I can name at least one alternative that is free and is made by a member of this community. I can name another one that is only $100.Did google but could not find the alternative of 200$. This GM studio is worth 2000$ it will sell like hot cake if it is priced at 1500$. @Everyone who got one me for guessing the price of GM:Studio: I was just making an educated guess. You see, given YYGs tendency to overprice stuff (GM:Standard $40 and GM:HTML5 $200). I figured they would overprice GM:Studio.
