I thought HTML5 was $99. I am curious to see how much Studio is going to cost and I can't wait for it to come out.

@Everyone who got one me for guessing the price of GM:Studio: I was just making an educated guess. You see, given YYGs tendency to overprice stuff (GM:Standard $40 and GM:HTML5 $200). I figured they would overprice GM:Studio.

No, you were making an emotional guess.

Your emotional outbursts aren't anywhere near educated.

you did not google well. I can name at least one alternative that is free and is made by a member of this community. I can name another one that is only $100.

I really don't think that Yoyogames overprices their products. GM Standard cost less than your typical triple A title, less than a Wii or Xbox game. Given what the program can do, I do not think it is asking for that much. Also, GM Studio has not released yet, so we cannot really say that it will be overpriced, even if it is $500 plus, because we have not seen what it is capable of yet.

Development tools are deathly expensive, mainly because developers invest a lot of money and time creating these tools, and they deserve to make that money back. If GM studio is too expensive for your situation, I can hazard a guess that GM standard will always be around for those of us with day jobs :D

By the way, I would love to hear the name of some of those alternatives that you were talking about.

You can't discuss other dev tools on the GMC. It's just one of those rules.

His post is inaccurate, though. GM-html5 is priced at $99. There is no longer any 'sales' banner up, no longer any mention that it is half-price, no longer any mention that it is a Beta. That's it's current 'true' price. That's $1 less than that $100 one he mentioned. And I can guarantee that that $100 'alternative' he mentioned doesn't have a PC/Mac port, and doesn't have an iOS/Android+whatever port coming out.

Haha, don't apologise, it isn't a biggie, and happens lots. Which is probably why they had to make a rule about it. =D

The mods sometimes turn a blind-ish eye, depending on the topic, and usually we can get away with 'generally' discussing another tool, so far as it compares to GM. For e.g. I can probably say he was probably talking about Construct 2, by the Scirra team, and that'd be fine. The problem with that, is that you're now probably going to want to go check it out, come back, and drop an opinion on Construct 2, or it's pricing, or how it compares to GM, and then someone(or two) else will want to drop their opinion, THEN we go onto an off-topic tangent. Which isn't really so fair for 99% of the GMC who are here because they are interested in GM, or the Yoyogames team who just wanted to announce their news!

I think Game Maker is great, but I got a license to an alternative because it supports more platforms, is more open, and its roadmap looks better.

Although for beginners I think Game Maker is still excellent, although I have to agree with this guy. $99 just for html5 is overpriced. $100 for more platform support is definitely better. You can develop HTML5 games for free, but I can understand that maintaining one source code to support multiple platforms is great, but that's not what GMHTML5 is. GMStudio for 99 would be great.

Game Maker's ease of use is what makes it so great so whatever price on it still makes it great, even if it costed as much as $1000.00. Although I don't think I would pay that much because of cheaper alternatives and the simplicity isn't necessary.

html5 is $99 I have it.. and I love it personally and hope to get GM studio ....but if GameMaker Studio came out and was anywhere upwards of 300 I would be disappointed because there are Engines that are very well established and have 3D support far beyond game maker and are around 400 although that is per platform, the android market and itunes have more than enough customer base for an indie wanna be developer such as myself.. so its a better investment in my oppinion if they hike up the price. but Id rather continue to work with Game maker as it evolves and continue to support Yoyo games rather than changing over to a entirely differrent engine.

I was only referring to the unity game engine which is free and an android license to be able to export to APK is $400. but u are right, I was more trying to stand up for game maker a bit and not spout other engines name off but.. indeed they have some stiff competition.

Hey guys. Its great that you have another person to help you guys out, but I would like to know how progress is coming along.

As a person with a programming background, I can't sit around and wait while game maker is efficient. I need to get more practice with some more professional tools that are used in the field more. I'm not trying to bash you guys, and bug fixes are great and all, but I'd like to hear more about improvements made to Game Maker.

HTML5 was great, though time consuming to develop. Also costly, because it either isn't appealing to a wider audience, or hasn't yet. That's why I have been making posts about making the UI much better as well, so that people are comfortable using it (but that of course is probably a GM9 project. possibly for the studio)

I haven't lost faith in you guys, but I do think that the fanbase of GM has gone down a lot, and it would be nice to start picking it up again by showing that GM is more cabable and closer to a compiler than an interpreter.

Keep up the good work.
