I was messing around with one of the Game Maker HTML5 tutorials and tried to test the game. When Internet Explorer opened it up, it said that the browser wasn't compatible. Then I installed Safari, and instead of an error message, it just never loaded the game. I waited for a minute or two, but all that I saw was a blank window. What browser is most compatible with HTML5 games? Why isn't it working?

Make sure IE is updated to the latest version (IE9) which supports HTML5. You can also try Firefox or Chrome.

As far as I have seen, Chrome works the best with HTML5, followed by Firefox 8, followed by IE 9, followed by Firefox 7.

I'm using Firefox 11 Nightly right now, and it works a little better than Chrome... but FF11 is very unstable right now (as it is a nightly build), so I wouldn't recommend it.

If I recall IE9 has the most support for HTML5 in terms of features. I can't speak on behalf of speed and performance though, but don't trust anything released before IE8

Check this page out: http://html5test.com/
Also: http://www.findmebyip.com/litmus/

The first page shows you realtime what your browser is capable of, while the second one shows you a list of which browsers support which HTML5 features. Also, check my post out to see how to get it working in IE6+ http://gmc.yoyogames...howtopic=525268

Hmmm. These two HTML test sites work great in Safari but the simple "Evil Clutches" game from Chapter 2 of Game Maker Apprentice doesn't even load. Why?

Apple has blocked all sounds.

Great resources! You might also want to check out Can I use? for a more granular approach. It is my favorite site for checking out who runs what.

Although I am thrilled to find out about the html5test site because it tells me what I have. Sadly it informs me that mp3 and aac don't work on Firefox.

I don't have an iPad, but I did check some other computers for Safari and sound.

Windows 7 runs a build of Koala-BR8 just fine on Safari with sound. The files are in MP3 and OGG. Works on OSX also.

But Safari seems to not like Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Koala-BR8 does run fine in IE10 on Win8 and also runs fine as an .exe file. I didn't try to build it as a Metro app. Has anyone build a Metro app with GM:HTML5?

I just saw an article on this. Sounds aren't blocked, but it may seem like it. Check out what Remy Sharp says here.
