I do not think there will be a need to gm9 after gm-studio comes out.

Some of us Mac users want a proper UI for GM for Mac.

And there's others of us who are waiting on GM9, not GM8 Studio.

And there's others who recognise that there needs to be an income stream to pay salaries for the development of GM9, that's where GM:HTML5 and GM:Studio come in. You may not have any need for either, but the fact of the matter is, the income they inject into YYGs is critical for the cost of writing GM9.

Completely rewriting GM9, is going to take a long time. Especially with all the ambitious changes Mike and Russell want to implement. They have gained a tremendous amount of experience maintaining the 8.x code-base, the c++/mobile runner and HTML5. The experience they gained will ultimately benefit GM9 and the products created from that experience will help pay for it.

Just to add to this, the fact is that even disregarding the financial side(which can't be done in real life), it is better they have done things in the order they are doing them. They have published games using the current platforms, adding runners to do so, and then are upgrading the software, as-is at the moment. They learned (the hard way) the flaws the code-base currently has, first, as a "user" of the software, and then as a "coder" of the software, first by creating games, and then by trying to add many features to the code/software as it is right now. Through all of this, they have gained much more experience, so as users, they have a better idea of features we want/need and the current defects that we work around, and, they know the codebase much better having worked with it to meld the new runners(HTML5/iOS/Android) to the IDE. As NPT said, this will result in the guys not making the same mistakes that Mark did when creating the project the first time around(not taking away from Mark or anything like that). Of course, this will result in a much better project in the end.

Why do you always do this to my posts? This is irritating.

The original post here was "I do not think there will be a need to gm9 after gm-studio comes out."

My reply?

"...there's others of us who are waiting on GM9, not GM8 Studio."

That's all I really need to say to you, this is ridiculous.

I stop asking questions for a few days and members are now fighting between one another lol

Though I do have a question. What will the GM Studio interface look like? Will it be just like GM 8 or will it have something different? Just wondering because that video you should me mike a while back in this topic shows a Game Maker interface I haven't seen before

GM9 will be a complete UI redesign using modern UI techniques (GM8 still used Multiple Document Interface (MDI) which comes from the early 90's) - we favour a docking panel approach rather than multiple windows - allowing the panels to be reconfigured docked (or undocked) and repositioned in many orientations and positions (to your own taste) - similar to Visual Studio.

Nothing is set in stone yet - but that is the current favoured view.

Oh right that's pretty nifty. Who thought that idea up?

Btw, is there a max file limit for publishing games? (Like 20MB, 5MB, etc) Or is it unlimited? (But at your own risk) Just curious as my sound composer is making sounds that barely even reach 25kb right now, this isn't a problem for me. And the graphics are 8 bit so less file sizes there. But I do like to know these questions.

GM:Studio will be free for GM:HTML5 owners.

Tweet from Sandy:

@TokyoDan yes. Studio is a modular product, so you will get an upgrade to html5, windows and Mac export for free. Not announced yet !

So existing HTML5 owners will get a free Mac export and the base product. Each export, iOS, Android would then need to be purchased.

I don't interpret Sandy's comment that way. He seems to be saying that HTML5 is just one of the modular "upgrades" inside GM:Studio, but that Windows/Mac modules are included in the base GM:Studio.

I don't interpret his comments as saying current GM:HTML5 owners get GM:Studio for free.

EDIT: I just read the tweet that prompted Sandy's comment. I agree that he seems to be saying that GM:Studio (with HTML5, windows, and MAC modules included) will be free to current GM:HTML5 owners. Great news!

EDIT 2: ... or he could be saying that if you buy GM:Studio AND you already own GM:HTML5, then you get the modular upgrade within Studio that includes the HTML5 and Mac export.

mdf200 Michael Dailly:

I'm totally LOVING the easy download to an iPad that #GameMaker #Studio gives you! Such a quick turn around to check things out!!

TokyoDan Dan Huffman:

@mdf200 What's this 'download to an iPad' with GameMaker? Download what?

mdf200 Michael Dailly:

@TokyoDan #GameMaker #Studio is awesome :) http://www.yoyogames...amemaker/studio

Tokyo DanDan Huffman:

@mdf200 Cool. I got GM HTML 5. How will the new GM Studio incorporate with that?

lordoftheyoyo Sandy Duncan:

@TokyoDan @mdf200 html5 will be part of gamemaker:studio

TokyoDanDan Huffman:

@lordoftheyoyo Will I be able to get some kind of upgrade discount?

lordoftheyoyo Sandy Duncan :

In context, I think my original interpretation that, GM:Studio (Win, Mac and HTML5 exports) will be a free upgrade to GM:HTML5 owners; is the most reasonable interpretation.

I agree that's the most reasonable interpretation. It also makes sense economically, since GM:HTML5 already includes Win and HTML5 export capability. Seems like a reasonable upgrade to offer existing GM:HTML5 customers -- and a very gracious offer as well.

So I hope Sandy makes an unambiguous statement like... "current GM:HTML5 owners will receive GM:Studio (containing HTML5, Win and Mac modules) for free."

Those on HTML5 will get an free upgrade (Sandy promised ages ago that those who paid for the beta would get "something"), to GameMaker:Studio + the HTML5, mac and windows exporters. We are also including the windows C++ runner in Studio - which will still have issues, but it's pretty sound overall. It's what all the other runners are based on, and is also DX9 based.

I can’t say much about the video yet, because there is not much to see, but I am definitely excited about Game Maker Studio. I am planning on getting myself a copy – though I’m really more interested in Game Maker 9. (Game Maker 9 is a full engine rewrite. )

Thanks for making this perfectly clear. That's a great deal for GM:HTML5 owners.

It's great for us Maccers getting a (hopefully) better runner for our Mac games! Hopefully it fills in a few gaps in support for certain things :)

Yup. I'm feeling a little vindicated because GM4Mac is a bit of a let down. The Mac exporter will go a long way.

Even though it was a let down, I don't feel ripped off. I've made my money back.

However, I do pity those whose first impression of GM was GM for Mac.
