Doing some experimentation, we have found a means to quickly locate tutorials in the forum by using google and implementing our own tags


Each tags starts with GMC, followed by the description. All caps, no spaces, alphabetical characters only.

The benefit using the tags system is that it differentiates from regular terms found in the forum which usually results in a huge search result list.

Many tags can be included in a spoiler tag in order to help people find what they are looking for. Please limit the number of tags to include a main category and a few sub category.

Using the spoiler hides the tags from view and the list helps us visually though it is not crucial to the functioning of the feature Looks like the spoiler prevents google from finding it Wrong again it just delays the process

You may add your own GMCtag if you find none of the suggested here are appropriate. Notify us of the new tag so we can add it in the list above.

Note that google needs to index the site before it can search and find new tutorials.

Now google can be used to perform a strict search using the tags and the site:gmc.yoyogames.com, like this example shows

You can use the forum search feature as well for immediate confirmation that your tags work

Looks like the spoiler tag prevents Google from seeing the text.

actually, the spoiler only seem to delay the data mining.

Also, note the use of the quotes
"GMCTUTORIAL"

which forces google not to make any guess as what it thinks I'm trying to type. because the tags are unique (ATM) to the GMC, there is no need to use the site: feature either

Perhaps we could have a GMCSTUDIO tag so it would be easier to find tutorials meant for GM:S.

GMCANDROID and GMCIOS would also be usefull, when tuts start popping up for those platforms as well.

Just add them in where? In a post in this topic and in the tutorial topic?
It would be good if you could put the tags that people want to use in the list that you've posted so people can easily see which tags they could already use in their tutorials and which tags people should search for when looking for a tutorial.

E.G. I could search for GMCNETWORKING, but I see that's not in your list so I assume that won't give me a result. Instead I could search for the GMCMMO and/or GMCSERVER tags in your list, which might give me the result I'm looking for.
Without a consolidated list, everyone could just use a bunch of different (but similar) tags, which would negate the whole purpose of using them. />

How about a pinned topic for tutorial requests, and a tag : GMCTUTREQUEST

I actually just made the pinned topic, I think the tag would be superfluous.
