I've got a game on my plate right now that I'm pretty excited about. The basic idea is this: traverse randomly generated labyrinth-esque dungeons, throw in a level editor and cool lighting, and viola--new game.

Anyway, I've got the groundwork laid down (random dungeons, level editor is in place) and I've been spriting everything on my own so far. Everything looks pretty good, and I think I've done an alright job thus far, but who am I kidding? I'm no sprite artist.

Here is the look I have so far:

Now, as you can see--our hero is a white block. This is because no matter how many attempts I make, I cannot create a good looking character sprite. So this is where the talented spriters of the GMC come into play. I need help with a hero.

No guidelines whatsoever--he doesn't even need to be human, or even a he. All I ask is that it be around 20p x 20p (anything under that is fine) and kept around the same-ish style that I have so far. Aside from that, go hog wild. All I need is walking animations and idle sprites.

I can't offer much besides full credit in the game and my undying gratitude. If you're interested, post here or send me a private message. Thanks!

Do you want the rest of the art to be revamped or polished? If you like the character sprite I'm whipping up now, I can work on that bit as well.

If you're up for it!

Came up with this after a few tries, though I'd like for the design to be a bit more androgynous (I think being nonspecific about the main character in a replayable exploration game would be a good design choice). If you like it, I'll proceed to do animations. How are the rest of the animations in the game? Smooth, or retro-low framerate?

I like love it! The animations are retro-low framerate. Thanks a bunch, man.

This is completely untested, so I have no idea if I placed all the pixels right. Could you plug it in and give it a go?

EDIT: changed the image, moved around a few pixels that were too annoying at most resolutions and edited again to include the new idle sprite.

Dude, that's perfect. Looks great. Would you mind making a jumping and crouching sprite as well?
