Name: Mads Performance Test

Current Release: 0.82b Open Beta

Short Description: A benchmark which tests the capabilities of your CPU and GPU and gives them a score based on their performance. Your results can then be compared with the results of other persons and see the difference in performance.

Other Information
  • Requires .NET Framework 2.0 or later Download Link
  • Sadly I don`t have procedure which automatically sends results as of now so I need user`s cooperation
  • Results are written in an ini file in the same folder as the exe and are also shown
  • To be able to compare different hardware I shall post some results
  • Please note that results may be influenced by background applications.

That`s very peculiar.

Your CPU model should have gotten somewhere around 4000 and your GPU model should have gotten somewhere around 2000. May I ask if you were running demanding applications in background?

Nope. Just Chrome... I was a bit surprised too that the CPU scored so low. I thought it would be closer to the i7 mark.

EDIT: Just remembered that I have everything under-clocked in "energy efficient" mode. I have re-done the tests and posted the results in my previous post.

Great! It seems like the results are around the expected mark after all. Thank you very much!

By the way, it seems like the hardware information wasn`t very clear. Is it an HD 6850 or an HD 6870?

I highly doubt that, especially with the Intel graphics card. Relative to the other hardware scores, your results seem pretty spot on to me.

That`s weird. Can I please have the error? I`m curious to see what happened. By the way, the "Name" line was written by you or by the program?

why would you say the test is going to stress out my cpu and gpu when my cpu and gpu were no where near stressed, I was already running a few programs at the same time, here are my results:

It says because it does just that. The tool creates new processing threads which will mainly be more important than your other programs` threads, but some will still eat away CPU/GPU time (ex: skype will eat CPU for notification check and sounds and GPU for the actual pop-up that "slides" on your screen; the same with system processes, they will tend to ignore other threads).

The tool does not really stress-test, because that would mean running a demanding application for a longer time and my app does not do that. My tool just evaluates the basic capabilities of these processors. I might add a stress-test function for the people that want it.

All in all, thank you all for the feedback and you are welcome to give me any criticism.

Lol faissialoo I think someone needs to calm the **** down.

That`s weird. Can I please have the error? I`m curious to see what happened. By the way, the "Name" line was written by you or by the program?

The error I was getting is the generic Game Maker unknown error has occured. I got it more then once and ended up spamming the left mouse button

The name tag was written by the program, Thats not even the GPU I have (I just googled it, It not even a Nvidia GPU)
Below is a screenshot from my Nvidia Control Panel, Might help

http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/7453/screenigl.png

EDIT: Ok after a bit of research I now know why it was giving me false info. Because the laptop is an Alienware you can't use the offical Nvidia drivers. Awhile ago I installed a workaround to fix this issue. After going back to the forum I notice that it says that it changes your GPU's name to confuse the Nvidia installer.

I suggest installing the apropriate drivers, in this case drivers provided by Alienware. Wrong drivers might cause the hardware to malfunction, overheating, it can even damage the graphics card because it does not manage it`s resources well. This will also cause slight to severe performance drops due to the driver
failing to properly manage the power of the GPU.

As an example: if you have a gtx 580 and the driver thinks you have a gtx 560, it will manage the voltage differently (over-voltaging or under-voltaging the card, problem which will damage your card permanently and/or lessen it`s lifespan), it will think that your card has less power than it actually has and it won`t use your GPU 100% and last but not least, the cooling might be managed differently which will either make your fan/fans run too much (degrading the lifespan of the fan) or not using the fan/fans as much as needed cause the card to over-heat.

The last issue is less common these days, but it actually happened to me with a little bit of time ago. I replaced a faulty ATI X1650 with a ATI HD 5670 and I forgot to uninstall the drivers of X1650 (usually it is recommended to reinstall your windows because drivers write information in the registry which will not be deleted and some dlls will remain as well). The result was a very noisy HD 5670: 60 degrees Celsius with the fan at 55% speed in idle state. After fixing the driver issue I was presented with a temperature of 38 degrees Celsius with the fan at 15% speed in idle state. Well, ain`t that a difference?

I took the test, don't know where the results are stored. If it matters I ran it from my desktop and there's no new text files there or anything.

The file should be right next to the executable (in the same folder). The name of the file is results_*a fairly big number*.ini
